Naughty Badger has started bucking all of a sudden!!!

He has never really bucked before and he's 9yo.

I took him cubbing the other week and he was broncing after every fence and then mum said he was bucking today on a hack..

I'm pretty sure he's just feeling good, as first time was first time hunting after he'd just been clipped and he's been shut in a few days because he lost a shoe which could explain giddyness today..

Do you think it is just that or it could be his saddle hurting him or something?? Just seems a bit strange as he's never done it before??

Mine started doing this not long ago and, although he's been known for the occasional squeal and small (and I mean tiny) buck, this was different and he did more. He also then didn't feel right jumping - landed disunited etc.

Turns out he had a very sore back - think as a result of me being over eager jumping him in the field to be honest but could just be down to him larking about.

Anyway, had physio check him (actually have now had two) and think we've sorted it now. He's def seeming more comfortable in himself and hasn't thrown in any more bucks. So, if it continues I would suggest getting his back checked out, could be he's just twinged something - I think that's all mine did.
 
I don't understand how you can be pretty sure there is nothing wrong with him? As you said, he's started this behaviour "all of a sudden" and he bucks after doing something which I assume would put considerable strain on back and muscles. I would definately think there was something wrong, personally, even if it's just a tweak.

I think that because he is doing it in situations where he is excited and giddy. I hacked him out the day before I hunted him and jumped/cantered and he was fine.. he's hacked out since and been fine, just since he's been in for a few days.

He has bucked before, twice, and they have been "get off" bucks, and succeeded!! Once with me, once with another girl but we've never had these bunny hop bucks before, which is what they are. If he was a baby I'd think 100% it was just joyfull, but he's never done it before!
 
If he is doing it in situations where he usually gets excited and giddy yet he has never bucked before I would not be putting it down to what he is doing I would put it down to pain of some sort.
He has obviously been in these situations before and never felt the need to buck so there should be no reason for him to start now unless something is wrong imo.
 
My horse has just started this recently. Had everything checked and all fine. But I was thinking it was only after his clip that he started it. And yours is just after the clip so maybe that has something to do with it?
