My horse is getting naughtier by the week!!! He's been very full of it up until last weekend - when I rode him he coughed a few times and had a bit of a snotty nose... so he had a few days off. My dad took him for a steady hack yesterday and said he was really lively, so my mum was going to take him for a canter today and see how he was.... all being well he would be fit to hunt on Saturday...

Well, I've just had a phone call from mum, they got half way down the road and he spun round and galloped flat out back up the road!!!!

He's never done anything like that before!

Other naughty things he's been doing is showing lots of aggression towards other horses and dogs, and generally being really strong, excitable.

This is the first winter he's kept weight on, and he's fit but hasn't been out hunting much since xmas - do you think it's just high spirits or could it be something else??

He just sounds full of it.
Probably just the time of year and he is feeling fit and healthy but you know him best so can keep an eye out incase there's something else xx

He doesn't get very much of that because our turnout is rubbish so when he does go out he doesn't get to eat much!

Do you think he's just feeling frisky then?? I think I'm going to hunt him on Saturday, I'm just slightly concerned because he seemed a bit poorly last weekend but he would appear to have recovered!! It's a local meet so I can play it by here...

My mum will be scared of him now and not want to ride him ever again - nice move Badger!

Thanks April, I think he is ok.

Mum thinks he has just behaved in the past because he was a bit malnourished!! The first winter I had him he was very steady, and very skinny, last winter he was more lively and a bit fatter, this year he's an idiot but in good condition!

Sounds a bit like we didn't used to feed him!! i promise we did it just didn't seem to do very much!

LOL I am sure you feed him

I have also experienced that with my old horse.
She was very run down and scrawny when I bought her and needed a lot of muscling up and feeding.
She was a little mouse but once she started feeling healthy and happy she became much more confident and full of herself which is how I would want it

Yea i guess I do prefer him like that but my little old mum needs to exercise him in the week so I'd rather he tried to contain himself a little more!

hehe yes there's a fine line between natural exuberance and being dangerous! Am sure you will find the right balance xx

ETS - was it you who posted a pic of your mum doing that HUGE hedge with the drop?? she is one brave lady if so!!

Yea - she's a bit strange really because she's like that hunting but then a right wimp when she's not and terrible on horses that aren't her perfect Caffrey!!

Funny you should say that - I'm just ordering the prints for her now! Takes us a while to get round to things!
