Well, Pony excelled himself yesterday afternoon

All the horses are in individual fields. The mare just down from him is in season. Pony has a bright idea to cause some havoc so decides to plough through the stripped electric fencing his field to get into the one next to him  Once through he proceeds to chase the horse round for a bit before double barrelling the horse causing a nasty cut on the horse's hock. He's now lame  Pony then moves on to the next field  ploughs through that and chases that horse round before cornering him. He then breaks through that electric fencing - which is on but clearly not on a strong enough power to stop him  - and jumps into the mare's field.

My YO was not impressed when she called to tell me as it was her horse that Pony kicked!

He was moved into an isolated field after his antics well away from the others. I went up there yesterday evening and lunged him until he was all puffed out then put him back in his new temporary field. I stayed with him for about 30 mins; he didn't leave my side the whole time bless him :( (I know I know I shouldn't feel sorry for him!). It was awful when I walked off as he was just whinnying by the gate like butter wouldn't melt :D.

This morning he was waiting for me looking a bit lost being away from his herd :( He's now in his stable where he can see some of the others :)

This weekend we are building a proper fence for him to go into - a steel rimmed cage if I have anything to do with it !

Honestly!

Oh dear, naughty frustrating pony :( I think you were right to feel sorry for him though, horses aren't motivated the same way as humans so I doubt he was "just doing it to be a twerp". Sounds like the mare being in season affected him if he isn't usually an escape artist - have you not had him long or was this the first time he'd been near her in season?

Good luck with the secure fencing!
