My mare has been short behind but I have gone through every vet route possible and nothing has showed up so now I am seeing if riding her and trying to build up muscle helps.

Today I schooled her for the first time in weeks and she was brilliant- didn't fight the contact, worked in a consistant contact and was well behaved in the canter.

Towards the end (and when she was getting tired) she started to buck on the left rein and in the same place every time (near the gate).

Would you put this down to her being nappy and wanting to finish or her being in pain?

I must add that she has been known to nap towards the gate when she thinks its time for her to finish!

Given that she is known to nap towards the gate, and you said she was getting tired, I would think she was just voicing her opinion.

My horse went through a stage on one ride towards the end that every time we cantered on the left rein and would spook and try bolt at the exact same spot every time. It was the one time I had a camera running and when I looked at the video at home I could actually see it was something I was doing. Because he did it the first time I expected him to do it again and so he did.

I wouldn't think too much of it this time but if it happens again I would have another think about it.

No harm in getting her checked out.

Get saddle checked.

Also my mare was similar. Well she kept going stiff, a lil bit lame and nappy if pushed too hard. She had a slipped disk in her back and was PTS. It took 2 years for them to diagnose anything.

If it was the first time schooling in weeks you probably did a bit too much bearing in mind she has been having problems, go back a few steps and build up more slowly, I would not work in canter for a week or two.
By taking things more slowly it will give her muscles a chance to develop correctly and she will have no reason to behave badly if she does not get tired.

Yes, think I did get a bit carried away with the schooling as she hasn't done much and hasn't got much muscle.

I think she is pretty happy in her mouth- had her teeth checked not long ago and all seemed fine :)

also do some fun stuff like hacking that will help her get fit
