naughty pony

i took my pony to a show today for the first time and although i expected her to be a bit naughty i didnt expect her to be rearing every two seconds.

she went to the show with my other horse and everytime the other horse was taken away from her she would just constantly rear and back up, even when you where holding her from the ground she would keep rearing. she even reared up and caught my mum in the chest, but shes ok. It doesnt stop her from doing any of the classes though, i took her in a jumping class and she was really good its only when we are out of the ring.

has anyone got any ideas on how to calm her down or just any help at all?

Try taking her on her own a few times just to watch. With it being her first time she would have wanted to feel safe, with your other horse. It can be a scary experince. With time she should settle down

Agree with tinkandlilly as it's her first time, she was excited and she will only get better the more she goes to shows and become quiet chilled about it all

As a horse behaviouralist once said to me: at a show your horse is trying to "read" the herd behaviour and, as there are so many horses all displaying different attitudes (some relaxed, some fearful, some stressed), it can really freak a horse out! It has taken us all season going out every week to get our section D used to coping with it all.

my pony went nuts at his first show we were in the warm up arena best buddy in front goes off for a canter so jack joins in at flat out gallop and is pleased with himself for catching up then is buddy goes for a trot leaving jack behind again so he does a massive buck i fly in the air and thump land on the ground then my dad turns up with my body protector-bit late. so my friend who is stronger and a bit more experienced than me jumps on the beast and she even has trouble keepng hold of him so next tiehe is having his gag in the naughty pony!!

im taking her to a show next weekend with a horse she doesnt know so hopefully she will behave a bit more because she wont know any horses or people there apart from me.
