I ride a pony called billy he's a welsh section d and i ride him for a lady. Iv been riding him for over a year now aswell as my own two. He has always been naughty when i first started riding him his owner had not ridden him for a year and he was sent to two yards that could do nothing but then got better with more riding in the summer and i used to ride him bare back everywhere. Then i stopped riding him for a while because i didnt have time. but after a few months i missed him and started riding him agien. He started being naughty like he was when i started ridie him and when he gets excited he rears and has bucking fits normally i sit to then and ride him out of it, but a few months ago he chucked me off onto a car. ever scince iv been very careful what i do with him and so far he's being good apart from the bucking now and then when he gets excited. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get him better.

Most ponies don't buck and rear because they are naughty. There are a few who buck in excitement when jumping/after a period of restricted exercise etc but most times out of ten a pony who is bucking and rearing is in pain. Can you suggest that the owner you ride him for gets a vet to look at him because his behaviour over a long period seems to indicate something like a back problem?

If he was always good for you bareback then another thing to check is if his saddle fits. Especially if he has been off-work for sometime he may have changed shape and the saddle could be hurting him. The owner needs to get a qualified saddler to check this.

Good luck to both you and pony!

Is he sound? has a vet looked at him for a cause of possible pain?
Teeth been done?
Does his tack fit?
Has he been trained properly? i.e. does he understand what is being asked of him?

iv had his back and teeth checked and his saddle fitted. I think He gets exited but he just gets to exited but also when its bad weather he gets nappy and naaughty? any other ideas? and he know exactly what i want iv schooled him well.

When it is windy and raining the horses senses are heightened bcause they cant hear as well- they rely on that to keep them safe. So they are trying even harder to hear. Everything moves more too so their eyes are constantly working. As a result they are more on edge because they are trying to work out what is a threat and what is just the hedge moving.
