I'm new here on horse and hound and dont know how this works. But I need advice on a little problem that me an my horse are having. Her names charity, she's a welsh pony quarter horse and I've been riding her for about a year or so. Anyway. A few months back I was tacking her up and she just whipped her head back and nipped me. Not hard but it sure did stun me. So I let it go, and she always looked at me when I'm putting her girth on. I don't tighten it, until I'm in the arena. I let it just be loose on her belly. Then the other week. I went to get on beside the mounting block and she looked like she was trying to bite me. Her tack hasn't changed. No one else rides her and I've been doing the same thing I do everyday. I really need some help on this because me and my horse are still trying to create a bond. And I love her, and I don't want to feel like she hates me. If anyone could email me at [content removed] that would be lovely!!

Even though her tack has not changed she might off and this could be the reason for her behaviour her saddle and girth maybe causing her pain. Check she has no sores, get saddle checked by a qualified saddle fitter and possibly get her back checked too. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much, I`ll be sure to get her checked out and do what I can. Hopefully it works. Im going to cross my fingers

.....and if there is nothing wrong with her tack or health I would suggest a thorough review of her manners and attitude to her place in the horse/human interface. Sometimes horses need a sharp reminder of what is and is not acceptable behaviour.

P.S. biting people is NEVER acceptable.

I think that's what it is. I'm very gentle and don't like yelling at her and I think she's knows now that she can just do that. So in going to defiantly teach her a lesson.

I hope you get the measure of Charity and/or get to the bottom of what she's trying to tell you! Just to say, I wouldn't leave your email address on show like that on an open forum. People can private message you via this platform so no need to give all and sundry your email :-)
