Meet Schoko.

He was a navicular cripple at 5 years old. He'd had all the remedial shoes and was broken physically and mentally.

He went barefoot in 2009 and is still rocking along sound today.

He got two 1st places today

This was achieved by a couple of 'normal' owners (husband and wife who both work full time) on a 'normal' livery yard with the help of a UKNHCP trimmer. He is fed Bailey's LoCal, grass and haylage.

My rehab is now on three years with the people I gave him to. Wins elementary dressage, breed shows, was in the 2013 New Year Parade in London and sometimes drag hunts. Like Shocko, had the lot - adequan, tildren, hla, bar shoes shoes and was still lame. Done at home with no special facilities.

Isn't it great to see these written off horses racking up years of soundness :-) ??

lovely to see this and beautiful horse. Makes me think more positive about my mare who has recently been diagnoised with navicular, pedal bone hasnt grown at the correct angle, we are currently trying bar shoes - can you PM more info on what you did with shoeing or post on here as would love to know more.

P_P - I think the point was that remedial shoeing didn't help the horse, but a barefoot rehab did.

I hope that your horse comes sound. :)

People and farriers i have spoke to have different views on barefoot and how it should be done, so I was just looking for more info also how long it took. :)

More info is always helpful. There are quite a few on here with positive navicular rehab horses, hopefully they will see this thread and pass on their experiences to you.

Looking at Rockley Farm's blog might be helpful for you.
