Hi all. About 2 years ago my 11.2 overweight Dartmoor pony was diagnosed with impar ligament damage. You were all very helpful and pointed me towards Rookley Farm but in the end my farrier and I decided to rehab him ourselves barefoot. This has worked. He has been sound up till now and competed las year and even got back on in August gone.
He was trimmed 3 weeks ago and was long in the heel again ( went too long between trims as I missed appointment because of family bereavement) he's been a bit feely since but now looks quite sore on hard ground although sound still on the soft. Ive buted and boxrested today going to make some frog support padsfor his hoof boots.
I know it could be because he's been back into work for 5 weeks since his holidays ( 3 months off after show season). Can anything else make him feel more sore all of a sudden. The field gate is a gloopy mess and he insists on standing there over fetlock deep. Could that affect him? Just looking for any possible causes that could minimise the situation.
Many thanks
Nikki
