Riding back to the yard this evening (about 7ish), me in front in lots of hi-viz and my friend a couple of lengths behind. I heard and then saw a car coming down the hill towards us at high speed. I could hear another one coming from behind and started to think 'OMG, these two are going to have a head-on, right by us!!!!'

My friend tried to flag down the guy behind but he was going too fast and the woman approaching from in front made no effort to slow down. I pulled up and practically pushed Chivy into the hedge, as inevitablly they met right beside me. Somehow the guy missed the woman but was coming right for me, if I hadn't hauled Chivy out of the way he would definitley have hit us. I yelled something at them, can't remember what, but I didn't swear, and we carried on.

All I could see was this car coming straight for me

A couple of minutes later, this car appears from behind about a foot away from me - it was the woman who'd been speeding down the hill!! She'd gone home, dumped her kids and come back to scream abuse at us!!!!!!

I really thought she was going to drive into me as she was trying to steer and lean over the passenger seat to shout at me!! I told her to go away or I was going to call the police. She told me to go ahead as she'd tell them what happened - so I did. She carried on yelling at me, something about horse drivers shouldn't be on the road, she was within the speed limit (60 mph on a country B road) and it was her right of way!!!

The police weren't a lot of help, saying someone would be in touch to get a statement, it was only when I insisted that the woman was here NOW, being abusive and dangerous that they agreed to send a car. It didn't turn up and the woman eventually left, after I carried on riding away from her.

The police did eventually turn up at the yard and took a statement, they were not really interested in the original incident, but did realise the seriousness of her road rage and went away to give her some 'advice'.

I couldn't believe how dangerous they had both been, but to come back and abuse us afterwards - she should be locked up!!

Quite shaken now, think I will need a whisky to get to sleep...

Sorry to hear of your incident, it's all to common, what gets me is these women that go around with "children onboard stickers" like we are supposed to drive careful near them, and yet they drive like aresholes one handed with a mobile stuck to their ear, stupid stupid woman, so if a massive lorry was coming the other way she would just smash into it just because she is entitled to do 60mph, I find these people unbeleivable

Glad you are both ok. one thing you could do is file an official complaint or report with the police or even say you waant to take action with regards to her abuse and dangerous driving.

Totally agree.

I drive around 35,000 miles a year, as a salesman, and have done for something like 30 years. I am constantly stunned by the ever lower standards of driving and complete lack of consideration shown by many people to other road users.

I had someone come so close to the hind legs of my lad last night, that I stopped and swung round in the saddle. Staring at me was an angry looking man in his 60's, who was obviously in the Le Mans 24 hour race.

It takes me longer to get from place to place than it did 30 year ago, despite the 'improvements' in cars and roads. So I simply allow more time for the journey. When will they learn

thats disgusting, some seem to think they become invincible behind the wheel, I was out one morning, and quite rightly pulled onto a small roundabout as the car from the right had a car from its right already on the R/A going S/A

anyway not sure what happened but thi bloke screamed up beind me after coming of the round about nearly smacking into me, like the 2 seconds he has to wait mattered, anyway probably my fault but I gestured through my mirror to get back
well Ive never seen anything like it, this was the sort of guy that would kill someone with that temper, hes started screaming swearing his car was rocking, gesturing, lots of words I cant print, he needed locking up, had to lock my doors and tip up my mirror I got so scared.

He then continued to do so until I pulled over out of the way as I didnt want him to see where I was going

Anger management should be compulsory for these people

Also reminds me of a post i read., some woman got annoyed about something, think it was that they were playing with thier horses in the stream and she didnt like it, It went something along the lines of this woman picking up horse poo and flinging it at them on the horses

Poor you! Sounds like it was really scary!

I have to say the police's response is really, really disappointing! The woman driver must have been quite nuts to hold a grudge for long enough to drop off her kids, come back and scream at you - aside from the fact that she was in the wrong in the first place. Is there nothing you can do to get the police to take this more seriously?

that must of been very scary, infortunatly this becoming more and more heard of, bad road rage with horse riders. also just because it is 60mph doesnt meant you should be doing that speed. speed limits need to be reduced for country lanes imo.

That also reminds me of a time when we offered to pick up a friends pony to move it to a new yard. We came to a roundabout and had right of way onto it as the man to our right had a line of people going staright on past him. So we pulled out nice and slowly, as you do when towing horses, but half way around he had now entered the roundabout and was clearly angry at the fact there was a horse trailer......on the road.....going slowly!!

So the silly man decided to honk his horn loudly right up behind the trailer!!! i mean, how rediculous and potentially dangerous is that!! Lets just say that man got a fair few gestures from a car full of people :P

Thanks everyone for the support, much appreciated as I'm still a bit shaken even now - still keep seeing that car coming straight at me

Cuffey - I've reported it on the BHS form, thanks for the link

So this woman has children?
Poor kids having her as a role model.
I expect she had child on board in her window as well, in other words everybody drive carefully around me while I drive how the hell I like!

My advice to you would be to go back to the police and ask for an incident number. This will mean it has been logged on to the system.

I would then contact the Police area commander and tell him/her that you feel that they have not treated this incident seriously enough and ask him to ensure that appropriate action is taken against the lady driver. (After all your friend was a witness so there is no problem in the police taking a statement from a witness) and charging the driver with dangerous driving and also abusive behaviour).

Ditto this.....because if you hadn't moved out of the way quickly enough they could have been dealing with a fatal accident.....
