Riding back to the yard this evening (about 7ish), me in front in lots of hi-viz and my friend a couple of lengths behind. I heard and then saw a car coming down the hill towards us at high speed. I could hear another one coming from behind and started to think 'OMG, these two are going to have a head-on, right by us!!!!'
My friend tried to flag down the guy behind but he was going too fast and the woman approaching from in front made no effort to slow down. I pulled up and practically pushed Chivy into the hedge, as inevitablly they met right beside me. Somehow the guy missed the woman but was coming right for me, if I hadn't hauled Chivy out of the way he would definitley have hit us. I yelled something at them, can't remember what, but I didn't swear, and we carried on.
All I could see was this car coming straight for me
A couple of minutes later, this car appears from behind about a foot away from me - it was the woman who'd been speeding down the hill!! She'd gone home, dumped her kids and come back to scream abuse at us!!!!!!
I really thought she was going to drive into me as she was trying to steer and lean over the passenger seat to shout at me!! I told her to go away or I was going to call the police. She told me to go ahead as she'd tell them what happened - so I did. She carried on yelling at me, something about horse drivers shouldn't be on the road, she was within the speed limit (60 mph on a country B road) and it was her right of way!!!
The police weren't a lot of help, saying someone would be in touch to get a statement, it was only when I insisted that the woman was here NOW, being abusive and dangerous that they agreed to send a car. It didn't turn up and the woman eventually left, after I carried on riding away from her.
The police did eventually turn up at the yard and took a statement, they were not really interested in the original incident, but did realise the seriousness of her road rage and went away to give her some 'advice'.
I couldn't believe how dangerous they had both been, but to come back and abuse us afterwards - she should be locked up!!
Quite shaken now, think I will need a whisky to get to sleep...
