Thinking of organising a trip to the seaside with the horses sometime in March and was wondering if anyone had any ideas on which beaches are best and closest to Derbyshire?
I'm not sure where you are in Derbyshire, but most people round our way tend to go to Southport (I'm actually in Cheshire but right on the Derbyshire border). I've never been with my mare but I've heard good things from people who have
Derbyshire is the furthest place in the UK from the sea - bad luck!
I have no idea what these beaches are like for horses but:
The actual closest (depending a bit on where in derbyshire you are) is Skegness I believe. Not a very easy drive though.
Bridlington is pretty close and possibly and easier drive.
The beaches in Yorkshire are lovely and not too far to drive in a day, scarborough/whitby/filey/robin hood's bay etc the surrounding area is nice too and there is the cleveland way path running along a lot of the coastline. The towns are nice too so if you wanted to perhaps do a day hack with a pub lunch or take your horse over night this would be my choice.
North Wales is your other close option, Rhyll or somewhere, and I think the welsh beaches are more tolerant of horses. But I don't know that area particularly well so no other advice.
