Nearly got caught up in the Remembrance Day Service in the Village ……

Sorry never thought I would get embroiled in one of these heated exchanges … I did not think I was that naive!

The Remembrance Day Ceremonies have never been held in the Village Centre before, I presume it has previously been held at the Church and we had avoided that. This was being held smack in the middle of the Bridleway at a huge road junction!. Our Village has gone through a huge transformation over the last couple of years and one big irritation of mine is that the long distance Bridleway called the Downs Link used to meander through the Village under the old road bridge and not mix with any traffic whatsoever. However what we now have to cope with, is a major road junction with traffic lights, with push button controls, for Equestrian, Cyclist and Walkers use in the middle of the Village, with a large Medical Centre one side and a large Pub the other side – you have to see it to believe it, and I still wonder why permission was granted to mix Equestrians with Traffic when it was quiet and tranquil before, but that’s progress I suppose!.

What it is hard to get over is that we did change the route (my old boy is not very good being turned round so I always try to do circular routes, rather than turn round). So we rode up the road further and round behind the huge Medical Centre and down another little Bridleway, and at this stage to my horror I realised that they were nearer than we thought and therefore moving quietly forward was the only option. We did not make anyone move at all.

Posts can be very ‘flat’ and its not always easy to get the view over in perspective unless you go on and and on and I thought I had said too much anyway ... obviously had!

As I sometimes ‘lose the thread’ and do not know who’s responding to who …. So I thought a generic ‘some of you’ was the course of action. However I was reacting as I was so so unhappy that a member who had joined the HHO Forum at 22.37 hours and this was their first post, was not a very good way to introduce themselves, without getting to know the members. I was gob smacked!

How naïve could I be to not realise that this could be miss read, so I will go away and hide behind a bush with Elitemareslol and carry on watching in the future …..

The point being that I did not ride through it, but skirted round it!

I can understand what you're saying, OP didnt come across like this. It was almost asif you found it amusing in some way, and thankful your horse didnt kick off (as you expected it to).

I wasnt being rude to you ( well I wasnt having an attitude as I typed my response !!).
Sometimes one needs to start a thread including all the responses one may think one will recieve to save confusion.
People are rather upfront and opinionated on here at times including me

In my defence it wasn't the service we rode through, we were back at the yard by 11, it was everyone getting ready to walk to the service with their flags etc. Since they'd been starting to gather when we went out we'd assumed they'd be gone by the time we came back but it seems the walk was starting from a different point this year.

Re the turning round, this can cause as many problems as carrying on. He was thinking forward & very secure between hand & leg. He may not have been happy about what was in front of him but he was giving every sign of being willing to deal with it. To turn him round would have given him the impression that I was spooked, to make him take his eyes off something that was worrying him is inviting a major panic & we had cars behind us. Under the circumstances I feel we did the best thing.

It certainly wasn't a situation I'd have chosen to put us in & the very last thought going through my mind was "oh what fun!", in fact I was probably offering up some of the most fervent prayers of the day!. Personally I was extremely grateful my horse didn't kick off, but then it often seems the worse the situation the better he behaves.
