I gave Hemir a bath this morning (legs, bum and tail!), so new he would be 'a bit' fresh but never thought this would happen.... He gave a little buck as I did up my girth, but that’s ok I wasn't concentrating and did it up too tight. So we set off and he was fine, spooked and jogged a little - nothing much, then we got a out of the village and we started trotting, everything was going ok until he saw something scary that came out of nowhere (in his mind!) A car was coming up behind us so i tried to squeeze him on round the corner to get off the road, but then he saw something that was worse than the first one and fly-bucked, reared and jumped across the road, by this time the car was trying to stop, screeched on the brakes and nearly hit Hemir's back legs. Then the car just sped off...I was shaking, had tears in my eyes and wanted to turn back home but I knew that if I did that then he would have won. So I carried on but changed the way I was going to go so I could get off the roads quicker. I just rode him as nothing had happened, but inside I was falling apart, it scared the hell out of me. We got home unharmed and he went round the field bucking and playing with the others, no rug on, like he does after everytime he goes out!

I'm now eating chocolate and have a big mug of coffee next to me!! If this had happened a few months ago I would be crying, but anything that happens now (good or bad) is only going to make me stronger!!

(I put this on common room but i thought i would put it on here too!! It's horsey!!)

Gosh, a bit scary, well done you for carrying on and putting it behind you. Enjoy the chocolate!

Sounds scary - well done for keeping going, you did the right thing and hopefully having gone through this you'll find it easier to deal with in the future when he pratts around. I know how hard it is to keep going when you feel sick inside - I used to sing to my horse, it helps calm you down, regulates your breathing etc. Ok I probably looked like an idiot ! but it did help.

Chocolate is a great healer!
