I was fiddling around in her paddock for ages - poo picking, moving the fence over, cleaning and filling her water trough - and I noticed that she was being driven crazy by the flies. Toddled off to get my fly spray, but as soon as I came back with it, Ellie decided there was no way it as going near her and started careering round the field. I did my normal trick of sitting down in the grass with my back to her, and sure enough, she is so inquisitive she soon came over. I stayed facing away from her as she put her head over my shoulder, and then the bloomin' dog came flying in, thinking it was all a big game. Ellie turned away and lashed out, and I saw her hoof pass my face with about six inches to spare
It freaked me out just a bit; I dont think I'd have lived to tell the tale had she got me, and after chucking the fly spray bottle at her and jumping over the gate, I had to take a few minutes to stop trembling
Don't think I'll be kneeling down in the grass again
