Had a very near fatal accident happen today.

Went out for a walk with ponio, getting him more use to traffic etc ( he's a 2yo) very good but nervy with buses lorries etc.

We went under a bridge and all of a sudden amassing bus came hurtling through, ignoring me and ponio, must've been doing around40-50!!!!! On a small road too!!!!

Pony freaked out, knocked me flying into the road actually hit the side of the bus n managed to get him away n right myself.

Couldn't stop shaking. The bus just carried on by. We are both ok, just nervous wrecks!!!!:(

Given buses operate to a timetable they will be able to trace which bus and driver it was. Definitely report them, what if it had been a little kid on bike bouncing off the side, would they have carried on at top speed then too? I wouldnt want to be a passenger of someone who drove like that.

They will likely only get a talking to but it will be on the record so that any future incidents will be taken much much more seriously.

If you actually hit the side of the bus and the driver didn't stop, I would be contacting the police.

We seem fortunate where we are, most of the bus drivers are really good where I live.

Glad you're both okay!

What's a 'amassing bus' though? :o

Yep, report it! I did last year when an Arriva bus almost ran me off the road (I was in the car.) They traced the driver and he got a warning for driving too fast in the snow.

Please do report it to the bus company and the police. If this driver is so reckless, then the next poor soul actually riding a horse that they meet, could end up under the damn bus!
Also please report it on the BHS incident/accident reprting site.

Ditto re. reporting it both to police as "hit and run" and also the bus company. They do take this sort of thing very seriously.

I had a bus "goosed" me in a 30mph area; he was obviously running late and was trying to make up time, and was very very close on my rear bumper and was revving his engine and coming up close and then dropping back, then repeating this behaviour all through a restricted area.

So I reported him, thinking I wouldn't hear anything back, but the bus company did write back and thanked me for taking the trouble and that they would be speaking to this particular driver.

Also......... I think you should get yourself along either to A&E or your doctor for a check-up and/or examination tomorrow. As this was a "hit and run" you may find you have bruising and a medical check wouldn't come amiss TBH just to make sure you're OK, THEN if you do have any "injury" it would obviously be reported to the police and recorded as such as an "injury" accident and they would then be well placed to throw the book at the driver who should have been taking better care and attention not only to other road users but to his passengers who might well have witnessed what happened.

So, basically, report first to the police as a "hit and run". Tell them you have been traumatised and that your body made physical contact with the vehicle. DO NOT WASH your coat or jacket or any other of your clothes which made contact with the bus; handle it as little as possible and put it in a plastic bag as they may wish to examine it.

Poor you. Pour yourself a stiff drink if not already done so.

Same thing sort of happened to me, was riding though and despite using arm signals to slow it down and then was indicating to turn it swerved and sped by causing my boy to spin round. Absolute *******

My friend had a similar incident on one of our regular hacking routes recently. We are assuming it was a relief driver because we now recognise the regular drivers and they all pass us courteously and slowly, and we always thank them. We always wear lots of Hi Viz so we can be seen from a good distance, and we ride in a national park so walkers, cyclists and horse riders are to be expected on the roads.
HOWEVER one bus came hurtling towards my friend on her horse, and my sharer on my horse. Despite my friend waving wildly to get bus to slow down - it was a straight road and he could clearly see them - he continued whizzing past at 50 mph. Friend's horse spun in fear and his tail hit the bus. My horse stood solid as a rock, thank goodness. THe bus driver did not even slow down let alone stop.
My friend has complained to Arriva and has heard nothing back. THough since then we have had no bus-related incidents, you would still expect a written apology.

Next time it will be the police that we call, especially seeing as a child was involved.

Hi hope that you are ok, did you end up with any bruises ? might be worth photographing them. Let us know how you get on.
I have reported several bus drivers that speed with my kids on board and so far the company has taken it seriously so dont let them get away with it.

Glad your ok.This is why I will NOT take my cob on the main roads.Hes never actually been around buses (close up) he doesnt like quad bikes and tractors.
I really hope your ponio gets used to traffic.

Was this a proper bridge underpass - like a brick one? Not making excuses but if it was, and would most likely be dark under there chances are the bus driver may not have seen you in time, even if you were wearing hi-viz.

HOWEVER, the fact that you hit the bus, surely the driver should've stopped to check what was going on?!

I would report him to the police and/or bus people

Yes was wearing ho vis. I don't see how it would have been possible not to see us, the bridge was only tiny and it was very bright yesterday.....

Haven't reported to police. Will do so. X
