Neck on unique opportunity over there >>>>

It's been drawing my eye for ages too actually... Although as a yearling it's hard to tell how they will fill out especially at the gangly ugly duckling stage - much better at 2yo ime. Then again, I don't know warmbloods... do they all have such low neck insertions? Are the necks all that short at that age? Ive never been a fan of the dip in front of the whither either. Everything else looks nicely put together from what I can see and at that age.
 
He is a funny shape, but to give hope to anyone with a a very odd shaped baby horse, this one turned out ok :lol:

It’s either that the photo caught the horse at an unfortunate moment or it’s been bizarrely photoshopped I can’t decide .
 
He's just a baby - still at that very gangly and weak stage. I'd be more concerned at that age if he had a big cresty neck or actual muscle. Our baby was a fabulous foal, a real ugly duckling as a yearling and has now matured into an elegant and powerful rising 4yo. The problem these days is people pump babies full of food to get them to grow faster and/or look bigger and more mature than they are at that age to sell - to me he is a good example of what a yearling should look like.
 
There are loads of photos on that advert. It looks like a normal gawky youngster to me with a neck on the short/weak side

:lol: Definitely, though the greying out doesn't help ;), she was the oddest two year old going but has definitely grown into herself, though is ridiculously uphill which makes saddle fitting a challenge :o.
 
Ah, yearlings/2 year olds! They can give you such a fright, can't they? Necks are one of the things that can change and improve the most, so I usually don't fuss too much about them when looking at youngstock. Those with very round, mature necks at that age tend to end up stuffy and overtopped, IME.

Yes exactly. My yearling (now 2) has started to fill out now thank god. She went from 14hh in the beginning of 2017 to over 16hh, she looked like a giant giraffe thing. Niether parent is a lanky giarffey thing, both nice compact types. Horse grow in weird ways.

FYI- think it has been stood up like you would an Arab on the neck shot.

That’s another thing that bugs me... the fashion for standing everything up like an Arab show thing. I love Arabs don’t get me wrong but the way they are shown now is hugely grotesque imo... and now, everyone seems to want to follow suit!! WBs, Spanish horses you name it. Yuk.
 
I really wouldnt worry about it, the yearling/2 yr old stage is so changeable, the worst I could say about that neck is that it may end up slightly short, but nothing necessarily worse, there is a reason horses this age are hard to sell/cheaper, they can just be so hard to assess. The old adage of 3 weeks, 3 months, 3years is spot on, inbetween those times dont look!
 
That horse has been for sale for ages. It keeps coming back on the latest ads which would put me off. Not worried about it's neck though.

It always amazes me that people choose a very poor photo to try to attract initial attention. Although admittedly this has certainly attracted attention, even if of the wrong kind! There was another similar photo on ad ad recently, horse was apparently a 3 yr old bargain. there was only one pic. The horse was for sale for ages.

Yew, not been shown like a crabbet, more what the do with excotic ones in America etc. Makes anytgings neck looks weird!

I know I have Arabs and although I am not a huge fan of the frozen stand up look when my 2 year old colt tried to tense his neck it did look a bit pathetic bless him, but a few years down the line they so change so looking at the photo over there it is just a baby neck and you have to look beyond the weak and use your imagination.

omg what a difference my 2 year old was all head and a weedy body with stubby little legs it just goes to show you that you never really know how they will end up, a weedy little neck would be the least of my worries.
 
I'm pretty sure it's just a stage. Some of the yearlings posted on the foal groups I frequent go through absolutely frightful phases, and then end up looking just fine again a few weeks later. Flower always looks gorgeous to my biased eye, but I'm guessing that she's getting to that stage where other people probably look at her and wonder what on earth went wrong, and if they don't already, they will soon! :D
 
They really are! I know the owner! and everyone who has been on the forum a while has seen the progress pictures as skylla has grown up, she has three white hooves and three white socks which are muddy in the baby picture, nothing to get excited about :p

As Ester said, every regular poster on here has watched Skylla grow up, so I'm pretty certain that her owner didn't swap horses somewhere along the way and just fail to tell us all :D

it is the same horse I have grown up with ever changing greys and they change weekly when they are young and Alex is such a regular poster with pictures that is the same horse I remember the pictures back then.
