Neck straps

Old stirrup leather for me - always on + a flash noseband between the D rings. Always rather that than jabbing sir's mouth. Tried one of the RS Tor thingys but found them rubbish

Another vote for the neck part of a martingale, tend not to use one atm as my mare wears a martingale anyway and my cob is a saint - and if he's fresh he goes in his hunting bridle which has a breastplate on.

Yep always ! I use the neck part off an old martingale and like others have said it has saved my life. Can you ride a dressage test in one ?

I use a neck rope for bridleless riding but it's for giving cues not for if I think I'm going to fall off. If I think I'm going to fall off I grab her mane (and she has lots of it).

I'm a mane grabbed, we were always told to hold the mane when I was learning to ride. It is more stable than a neck strap too. Only time I would hold a neck strap is on a hogged horse, not due to snobbishness just habit.

yes i use one on my young horse all the time at first, then when he was learing to jump as he used to cat leap it was to ensure i didn't catch him in the mouth or crawl up my reins in fear:o now i just use it x counrty its an old stirrup leather

Mine are Libby neckstraps. Did have one of the balance straps between the D rings but used to forget to grab it in time of need!

Martingale on 2 of mine. Don't always school in it on the calmer of the 2 but jump and hack so it's there if I need neckstrap I guess. Have used it on the other many times already lol. Not on lottie. She's very old and has fallen before. She is sound and her health declines rapidly when not worked at all but the less tack on her the better if she does go down. Anyone else rides her I just tie a lead rope round her neck for them.

Just to say before I get jumped on the very recommends riding lottie and she is only ridden once a week for 15 mins at most. She loves it!
