I know it must be mundane to most of you, but it's the first time I've ever seen a dentist at work!

I've been meaning to book him in for a couple of weeks now, as I noticed a chip in his tooth, but YM was having the vet out for a mass check, so I figured I'd book in too to save us a bit of money.

He actually did quite well, but just as vet was going to open his mouth with the gag, a car alarm went off! Not something that usually bothers him, but for some reason, car alarm and dentist is very very scary!

So, he had the first lot of sedative (only a small amount) nope, still was on his toes! So topped him up...still not enough! Finally, he was dopey enough to let the vet work.

I have also never seen a dopey horse in person, hahaha!! I couldn't help but laugh at his silly droopy lip.

The verdict - chipped tooth is ok, but keep an eye on it in case the gum starts to swell. Teeth over all are good, she just had to rasp a couple of small pointy bits :)

To those of you who read my thread about Spike, Vet said he's not that bad, but she's given him some pain killers and will come and check him again soon! Here's hoping for good news!

It is quite funny seeing them sedated with the leg splayed half asleep droopy lip combo in a kind of feel sorry for them way :o Did the dentist let you stick your hand in his gob for a feel?
Our vet is great for that, she'll let you have a feel before and after and takes you through what she's doing. Can't wait till she's back from having her baby she's an awesome vet and I really like that she's so keen to get you informed and involved :D

Aw! They sound wonderful :D
He was still a bit naughty, even with all the sedative, or I guess she might have let me! I did have to hold his tongue at one point though, a very odd feeling! A bit like a flaccid *coughcough*....anyway!

Lol
Glad all is ok :)
Had both my welshies sedated for different reasons last week (one was gelded one had teeth out) the vet said the sedation would make them wee

Seeing them all dopey was amusing but boy did they ever wee - sometimes for whole minutes at a time :O

Yes! It made Ned wee...he didn't even assume the position, he just weed on his hoof...and my grooming kit!!

Mine didn't either and didn't drop their bits so it all came out like a sprinkler

The poor vet got a bit wet at one point!

What a lovely description of a tongue....just had my OH looking very concerned :p

Glad to hear he was reasonably ok for the dentist after sedation. Next time def try and get your hand in there pre and post rasp. It's amazing the difference!

How's the hacking going with him? x

It's going really well :D we have plenty of canters and some gallops and we go all over the place :D he can still be a /tad/ sticky coming out of the yard, but no more than a stop... "Ned! Come on!" ..."Oh, ok then!"
