First a bit bad=good. Ned jumped out of his pen...again. So YO left him in his field alone, as he doesn't churn up the ground much. She came out later to find he'd jumped into the hay storage!!! (A little yard like area) She thought she'd leave him as he'd only jump back in again if she took him out. She then came out the next morning and he was gone!! YO looked out into the "Big Boys" field...and there he was! Happily munching away with the others :D
This is a massive step! YO tried a while ago to get him in there, but he jumped out and clipped the gait. She didn't want to risk it as she's lost a horse that way, even though she desperately wanted him to live out with the others.
He now seems as happy as anything in there :D

WE HACKED ALONE!!
After Carefreegirl had ridden Ned and made him go so nicely out in front, I figured I should use her no nonsense, firm but fair approach. I walked him out in-hand first, before I got on and he seemed very chilled. I found a good spot to jump on and we were off!!
He was a bit nervous, but I can't blame him!
I tried to go through the ford on the way home, but a sign was hiding in the bushes and he refused to go past. I turned him around (bare in mind I turned him away from home) and we headed back a different route. Then it hit me. I LET him win!!
So, I turned again and we had a few issues (man stopped and said "Oh, he's a feisty one isn't he!!" lol!) but I got him back and we rode confidently past the sign and back home.
It was only a 20min hack, but I am over the moon!!!
I might try again later when I go back :D

Now, for pictures!! Sadly I didn't get any out on the hack, I don't feel I'm quite ready to handle horse and camera quite yet :P But here he is enjoying his new field!

Oh good work Nah, really pleased for you that you've had that lightbulb moment - I never wanted to say it as couldn't find a way without sounding rude but you did have a tendency to be a little soft with that steed ;) Good for you! I bet this attitude gets you steaming ahead with progress now :D

Well done you! All these small steps will all of a sudden seem like a massive leap in the right direction. Good work! He looks so chilled in his field haha, what a good boy!

Thank you :D
I think the softly softly approach has worked up until a point, but now we're trying to push ourselves...we both need to up our game a little.

I forgot to add, I thought he was missing LOL!
I got to the yard before YO could come out and explain that he was out in the big field. He wasn't in the little field...he wasn't in his pen!! While I looked calm and collected, my heart was pounding and I felt a little bit sick! Was he stolen? Did he run off? Had he died? Was he sick and in the horspital?! I always think the worst :P
I got myself together and went to poo pick in the big field. Then who do I spy, NEDDYY!!

Love the pics especially the last :D. That field did look very appertising. Well done for the ride, just shows you can be the boss without being bossy :)

Another update!!

I did not have to chase Neddy out with the whip!! He just walked right out of the yard :D No pulling or any force! That's another first!
I tried and failed to get on him where I wanted, but he had a fly which I just could not get! He was getting angry, so I decided to walk a bit longer before I got on. I had forgotten it had rained and when I stepped in the ford, I thought "Oh no!" I'm sure Ned has a sense of humour, as he dragged me through, water filling my boots! YUK!
Anyway, I emptied my boots and jumped on.
He was sure he was going home, but I told him other wise!
We went ALL the way to the end of the lane :D He stopped a few times, but only REALLY tried it on once, plenty of rearing haha! Thankfully not anything big.
We past a barking dog, a few people hiding behind hedges, some horses (in a field, we usually have problems, but not today!!) and even a big lorry with chains/bags/skips!!!

I'm so proud of that funny little horse :)

I think you've got to make him think that what you want him to do is actually his idea - he's bit like a mare in that way. Also when he has a 'moment' ignore it, take a deep breath, give him a pat then carry on :)

Thanks ^^

He technically didn't have any moments, at least he didn't spin. I can deal with the baby rears easily, but the nasty spins that get me. He got lots of pats and I must have looked like such a wally :P I was going along, pretty much shouting, in a very happy, girly voice "Goooooood boyyyyy! Who's a good neddy? Yes, very goood booooy!" haha!
