With happiness!

I went to the yard today to do some jobs to help the YO, as my hours have been changed so I have friday mornings off.
I wasn't going to ride, I told myself "No, you have work later, you don't have time!"
However, I found myself with Ned's saddle in my arms, walking over to him! D'oh! Anyway, I tacked up, got on with everyone else and we all went into the jumping field (Where I always have problems in the shows)
I did have a few little issues warming him up, as he just wanted to gallop and have fun in the snow.

Then, we did the first jump and he charged forwards, like always, nearly over taking the horse in front. I thought I'm not standing for this, so I broke away from the group and did some tiny jumps (sideways lol!)

I guess he decided jumping was fun after all and we had a great time popping all the XC jumps :D We even did the BIG jump :O

I'm so proud of him, I could cry! He's never ever jumped so well and I felt we've taken a HUGE step!

Read the title and was worried for a minute there! Naughty Annielusian! :D

Aw that's really great, glad you both enjoyed yourselves. You both look like you are having loads of fun in your pics :D Well done!

Teehee, I did wonder if I'd get anyone :P

He was having so much fun! He loved it! I hope he'll realise now that going away from the others can be fun and not scary!

Bonus photo - I let him have a little roll in the snow :P I brushed him off and rugged him up after!

Lovely pictures, so nice when things go right, i have a Standie and know only too well how fab they can be (and frustrating lol)

Sorry but jumping in the snow/ on frozen ground is highly irresponsible IMO.

Didnt feel the need to comment on that as by reading other posts you have made i knew that you wouldnt have ridden if the ground was hard, nice to see Ned havin a roll in the snow too

Nice pictures, seems funny that you lot all have snow and we don't (not complaining though)

Can I ask 2 questions - feel free not to answer if you wish :)

Were you wearing a bp? Are those xc jumps properly fixed? Sorry, must have my safety hat on this morning  :D

Love the picture of Ned rolling in the snow, i nearly turned mine out without a rug this morning but i was a meany & didn't & now she's missed the couple of hours of sunshine :-(

I did wonder about the picture where it looks like your jumping the chair backwards!!! You must be braver than me :-)

Nawhh, Nedward! Be careful in the snow though, I'd hate for anything to happen to either of you. I'm not even riding where I am, I'd hate for one of the youngsters to spook & slip.

I looove snow, I want more!!

I normally 100% wear a bp for jumping, XC or not, but I'm ashamed to say I forgot and left it in my mums car >.< woops! I wasn't going to ride and then when I did get on, I was only going to jump a few of the tiny ones. I just got so carried away with how good he was being :P
They're fixed, as in the poles won't fall down, but you can move them around :)

Wow  Not sure I'd be doing solid jumps on that snow- not properly covered enough to be deep and soft yet still enough to ball or be slippy :o What was the ground like under it?

Thank you :) You do know it will affect your riding school's insurance (assuming they are properly insured) if you are jumping cross country without a bp?

Have a look on facebook if you use it

to see why I'm concerned about the unfixed portables, they really can be dangerous.

I would hate for you or anyone else to get injured, I'm really not having a go. It's so good to see you getting to do a bit more with Ned, but I'd keep up the gridwork - lots of crosspoles with high sides to encourage him to snap his knees up as he's still a bit dangly in front. Definite progress though :D

following on from rhino's comment, the dangling knee in front of the unfixed jump in the third photo really worries me, especially on snow...

Definatly wouldnt be jumping in the snow especally over unfixed portables with a horse thats known to dangle front legs, all with out a BP, sorry but who ever let you really needs to be questioned.

@rara007 - It was actually pretty good! We were a bit iffy when we went out, but after a little canter around the field, it was fine ^^

@Rhino - :O I had no idea!! I may start keeping it at the yard then! Thanks for letting me know!
He's getting much better :D He kept all the SJ jumps up too in our last lesson :D I should hopefully be getting him on loan soon, so I'll be up there almost every day, working on stuff :) He's good at grids and I enjoy them, I'll have to do some :)

ETA: Even though his leg is dangling, he didn't knock a single thing today ^^

You both look like you're having a LOT of fun :) beautiful pics and you're right to be happy!!!

My old man is dangly in front too but he always picks up JUST enough to clear the pole! He's never knocked anything in the year I've had him **touchwood!!!**

I agree with you re the ground, at our end this sunday the snow had settled but the ground underneath wasn't frozen so we went for a good canter\gallop around a field. I think there's something exciting about riding in the snow esp when its all flicking up behind you and you can go back and look at the hoofprints!! :)

So to summise my ramblings WELL DONE lol xx

Ah, the jump that really bothered me was the hayrack type thing - so there we have unfixed and a false groundline as any possible true groundline is covered by snow. Not sure I'd be too happy with the two ridged and slightly flexible pipes side by side and not firmly anchored together, a foot between them would be unpleasant.

Whilst I think it's great you're enjoying riding so much, I can't help but think you're potentially going to have a very nasty incident at your RS soon...I used to work at a non-BHS type place where everything was a bit slapdash and probably raised a few eyebrows, but some of the antics at your place are LITERALLY hair-raising!
Please be careful :)

Omg u lot give it a rest. It's OP decision what's with all the criticism??!!

Because she doesn't know why it's unsafe- not in a nasty way OP, but you don't as you said a few posts up.

Jumping unfixed fences is dangerous. Jumping solid fences without a BP is dangerous. Jumping a horse who is prone to charging SJ fences and going through them over fixed fences with an inexperienced jockey is dangerous. Jumping in the snow on a green horse is inadvisable...

I'm glad Ned made you happy, but I would really consider having a few more riding lessons at a BHS-registered RS just to get a bit more experience so you can identify situations like the ones I've listed.

IMO if an RS has standards where it allows riders to ride in such a way, potentially it's a little lax on the old insurance - I know in my experience we never had to deal with repercussions from someone falling off and getting injured because it wasn't the era of 'no win no fee' back then but if someone had an accident there I could see it being a bit of a mess.

If it was individuals on their own horses it's a bit different and each to their own and all that...
