Ned Nearly Made Me Cry...

Because she doesn't know why it's unsafe- not in a nasty way OP, but you don't as you said a few posts up.

Jumping unfixed fences is dangerous. Jumping solid fences without a BP is dangerous. Jumping a horse who is prone to charging SJ fences and going through them over fixed fences with an inexperienced jockey is dangerous. Jumping in the snow on a green horse is inadvisable...

I'm glad Ned made you happy, but I would really consider having a few more riding lessons at a BHS-registered RS just to get a bit more experience so you can identify situations like the ones I've listed.

I knew it was dangerous jumping with no bp, but I didn't know the insurance problems it could cause. I shan't be doing it again! Lesson well learnt :)
He seems to know the difference between fixed and SJ jumps, he's not once knocked an XC jump, but used to go right through (not even lifting his leg!) SJ jumps! Thankfully, he seemed to have grown well out of that habit.
He's not really green, just silly! He's 10 and he was re-started at age 6, but since we think he was a gypsy road racer, he has probably been broken a long time!
Funnily enough, he was the most well behaved he's ever been today! I think he likes the snow :P
I would get lessons at another place, but I've exhausted them all in my area and I can't really afford it, nor get to one further away :(

Also, can we not do this on this thread please? I know you're trying to help, but this was my happy Ned thread and I'm slowly getting that nasty sinking feeling, I don't want it to ruin my day :(

PM me if you like though.

Lighten up people, I'm sure you've all done things that aren't 'BHS', I do most days! Let the girl be happy.

Well done for your progress with Ned, you're doing really well, enjoy yourself! :)

Annielusian stay happy!! You enjoyed yourself that's the main thing!! We all know many things in life are dangerous -including horse riding but we still do it. Have fun and enjoy ned!

You're missing the point - if he were to knock an xc jump, you're really going to be posting on here about how he's made you cry - with pain and potentially the loss of his life. Why don't people respect xc jumps any more? If he dangles a knee into one of those, you are looking at a potentially very nasty rotational fall. The very notion of taking a green horse xc when he has no form to speak of over showjumps is insane. It's luck, and his honesty preventing a serious accident - and frankly, he's worth more than that risk.

Well, I'm sorry, but life isn't fair. You'd feel a lot worse if we all said "jolly good show" and next time poor Ned breaks his neck.

Yes, notoriously so. On my horses, not at a dodgy RS, and not where it seriously endangers my horses' lives.

I would never jump in the snow either, far too slippy and risky. But that's just me I have a thing about my horses legs getting hurt!! Glad you had a good time though, that horsey looks lovely and fun :)

JFTD I made the same point as you but mine went unnoticed ;) maybe its just the way you write it?! (in relation to this thread and this thread only by the way, I am quite ignorant of anything else going on lol)

After what you said about me on that other thread, you've lost all respect from me. I'm sure you won't care in the slightest, but oh well!

What other thread?

I'm not interested in respect, I just wish you'd listen and think twice about some of the risks you take with that poor horse?

AprilBlossom, it would seem the OP holds a grudge for something I don't recall, and therefore my comments are more offensive. The problem with your comment is that it's too polite - I'm not sure how far it will be heeded, sadly :o However, maybe the OP will listen to you, if not me :)

"Novices who think they know everything, go on about how naughty their pony when it could practially be cannonised, fall off for no apparent reason, dont tell the bleeding animal off when it's ill-mannered and just sit there tense and clinging on, don't appreciate the importance of flatwork and think jumping is just charging round pointing at fences and kicking, think jumps can be used as a reward randomly when trying to settle a horse into a new arena... I could go on"

Does that ring a bell?

Sorry AprilBlossom, I must have missed it!
Just gone back and re-read...
It's honestly not that bad, it often doesn't look good on videos, but it's a nice little place. If people spent some time there, they'd realise :) I'm usually the first to put on my hat and body protector, I just forgot it today.

Cool off guys, I think the point has been made and received. Nothing bad happened and OP had a nice day so let's not turn this into a 14page argument and let her enjoy her horses good behaviour!!! I'm sure she's more aware of safety now + knows for next time. So chillllllll yourrr beaaansss :) xxxxxx

Oh yes, it rings a bell or two, don't see your name mentioned though :D

Can I just add, the reason I mentioned the unfixed XC fences is because Reg had a really scary near miss when a fence toppled underneath him as he chipped in and rubbed it. He was so lucky to not be very badly injured and it really knocked his confidence over skinny fences. That's why I'm very 'eek!' about that aspect in particular and will always say something. If you want photos of what happened, PM me.

What might feel good fun at the time and look nice in snowy pictures is asking for trouble and a rotational Is not uncommon - especially on uncertain ground with non-fixed fences.

Just because they look substantial doesn't mean they won't roll. Stop getting arsey and take people's concern for what it is! You will soon be responsible for his well being 24/7 from what you have said so take the good advice that has been offered to you time and time again.

Oh, p*** off, you know it's about me. Grow up and admit it.

I read this thread, went away came back and was about to deffend you, but seeing the above reply then im sorry but people have been banned for less so whilst your busy chucking your toys out the pram, please excuse me for hitting the button.:mad:

IMO if an RS has standards where it allows riders to ride in such a way, potentially it's a little lax on the old insurance - I know in my experience we never had to deal with repercussions from someone falling off and getting injured because it wasn't the era of 'no win no fee' back then but if someone had an accident there I could see it being a bit of a mess.

If it was individuals on their own horses it's a bit different and each to their own and all that...

Agreed with this- the horse i have is on full loan is kept at BHS registered riding school and all the lessons have been able to do is walk round the fields due to the snow. I havent ridden and certainly wouldnt feel happy jumping in snow. I also wouldnt jump xc without bp- if I'd forgotten it wouldnt even do little ones. Know how it is to get carried away when things are going well though!
Love the rolling pic though!
