I have been on it for over 2 years - but have recently gone back to shavings as during the winter when the weather is damper and they are in their stables more - I dont think it is as quite as asorbent as shavings when my mare is being really wet or when the bed is getting low. However, it is good if you mix shavings in with it occassionally - say one bag in 3.
I found it to be slightly heavier than shavings but worked in the same way - so just as easy to muck out.
It looks like a "chopped straw type pieces" and has been treated so that horses dont eat it - but I am not sure exactly what it is made of. Didnt find it dusty at all. It was just like good quality shavings. Also, it broke down quicker in the muck heap. And it was cheaper than shavings.
But as I said, just decided to go back onto shavings about 3 weeks ago - but may go back onto it during the summer months.
We tried this in place of shavings to catch the wee on top of rubber matting, but under a full straw bed. Found it far less absorbent than shavings so not for us.
I have recently moved onto this with my very messy mare and i love it!
I deep litter and over the past few weeks have used half as many bags of Nedz Bedz than i was of bedmax.
I don't find it dusty at all.
It is made from something to do with oil seed rape stalks or something similar. My mare tried to eat it when it was first put down but she spat it straight out and has not eaten it since.
It took a while to establish as a bed and i didn't like it at first but now i am used to i really rate it and will possibly move my other horse onto it (hes more my sisters so its up to her really).
I spoke to 'ernikins' today and she has all the info on this from a tried and tested point of view if you're interested? I was talking about Nedz and the fact I was thinking of trying it. I did worry about absorbancy too and she had some facts.
