It is more like bliss, I've seen it used in racing and they were really keen on it, not dusty at all. As for how many you'd need depends on stable obviously and it is better if you deep litter it like hemcore or aubiose for the best results.

hi, i've been using it for about a year and to be honest.. i think it's only good for a sprinkling n rubber mats.. if it's used deep which i try to do, it just gets so heavy and squashed down-even though i skip out in the morning and muck out in the evening
it's very absorbent and deep litters ok, just gets too dead too soon, i just don't think it's suited to be a deep bed.
it's certainly good for COPD sufferers and better for me too, me and my horse are both allergic to everything!
but for the sake of a deep bed i'm going back to shavings this winter.
or getting rubber mats for my awkwardly sloping box and may try to stay on nedz, i feel it'd be more suitable for this and definitely better than rubber mats and a thin bed of shavings.
give it a try though, it may suit yours..my mare's as messy as a stallion:/
in my 12x12 i put down 7 bales to start with and used between 1 and 2 per week, and i didnt feel the bed was thick enough

I am on paper at home but need to take bedding to RC champs and the stables are £30 a night with straw! I have to take two horses and you are not allowed paper, I can't use the straw so it is either shavings or nedz bedz and that is cheaper at my supplier thought if I took 6 bales that would be £36 which makes cost for one night [ 2 horses ]£96. If I take shavings it will come to £102 for one night .[ I will be trying to bag most of it back up as you have to clear it all out after use, but that is not easy ]
