looking for a bit stronger than a normal jointed snaffle but suitable for showing and jumping
he currently has a normal snaffle and a flash but get very agitated with the flash and very rude and stubborn. he is quite hard to stop but is not very forward but goes of the leg with strong squeezes. when asking to slow down or stop he flings his head out forward not up
any tack or any bit ideas?

Swop the flash for a drop, stops them opening their mouth but has no effect when they don't. Whereas lots of horses will fight a flash on principle as they can feel it all the time. Nothing wrong with a stronger bit when needed, but from the sounds of it schooling & lessons (if you don't have them already) is what's needed rather than tack imo.

i have only started schooling him since november and only ride him twice as week, so probably half is. thanks might try a drop nose band any bit suggestions??

If its a single jointed snaffle possibly try a French link so there's not a nutcracker action, but I'd concentrate on the schooling more than tack really.

If the 'normal snaffle' is single-jointed, I'm not surprised that the horse flings its head about when you ask it to stop or slow down (I assume you use your bit to do this), as you will be pulling the bit rings down and back in the horse's mouth which will make the joint poke the horse in the soft pallet. The horse cannot open its mouth to avoid this pain because its mouth is strapped shut. If you watch while someone else rides your horse, you will see what I mean.
I suggest that you get a French link bit and a cavesson noseband. The horse will be much more comfortable.
