Need a good under rug for the stable...

I'm looking for a nice under rug to go under a lightweight stable rug (I prefer to layer for warmth than use heavier rugs) - What would you recommend?

Pref to have a neck cover attached and MUST have a tail guard as H rubs her tail so this needs to be protected - Would like it to have a synthetic lining which would polish her coat -

So come on guys - you're good at pros and cons!

i use a duvet, its cheap and easy. can go right up the neck or be folded back. and to keep clean just get a cheap duvet cover and wash that when its dirty its the easiest thing to use. every horse in our place wears them
 
The Donkey is in a snuggly slippery Kingshead rug - she looks so cosy!! Will be putting a fleece underneath tonght though!

I was going to go to Primark and buy a duvet too (think they have tacky satin covers - that would make her shine!!!!!!!!)
 
I would use say a duvet too, dirt cheap to buy and at the end of the winter rather than having wash it just chuck it away, much cheaper option. Weatherbeeta Jasper rugs are lightweight and come with a tail flap to prevent madam creating the bog brush tail. If duvet is too warm at present buy a cheap fleece throw and use it the same way as the duvet.
 
yep I think that you're right - sadly the new stable rug I bought doesnt' have a tail flap - which has really caught me out!

Never even checked before I purchased! But it fits lovely and so I thought I'd find something to go under it instead!

Will consider using a duvet - if it's longer then it may cover her tail to a certain extent...

yep because the stable rug I bought doesn't have one!

... I know the easiest thing would be to take the stable rug back - but I can't be bothered! LOL!!!!

I have a Jumpers horseline one - it does have a big tail flap but it is an "interesting" fit - seems to be hug around the shoulders and the buckles sit very low at the chest.
 
Am I the only one who cant get a duvet to stay on my horse? I cant work out whether I'm doing something wrong or Georgie just likes to tuck himself up at night.

i have a kingshead full neck that used to have a tail flap (before it got eaten) its about 4 years old now, but they might still do them, its the only full neck i've got with a tail flap, all the others don't have one, alternativly, you could have one added after you've bought it?
 
We use duvets too, at the moment as the weather not too cold here they all wear fleece rugs under their stable rugs.
Shires do a fleece with a tail flap good cheap rugs we bought a load from a stall at the cob sales for about £10 a rug!
 
Until last week I used the weatherbeeta combo (no tail flap though) which I've used for 3 winters now and woudl recommend, BUT it did rub Lude's mane out. Whilst shopping at Throstle Nest last week-end, I bought a musto combo under rug which has silky lining up the middle of the next to prevent rub and it was only £34!! But alas no tail flap either!
