Need a little help with 4****dressage test...

My question is: when it says in the BE rule book that an interval between horses is 8 min, does it mean the test itself last 8 mins? Sorry, no idea about those rules

and really need an info for some weird scientifical analysis

I would think it is more likely test lasts 5 mins and there is a 3 min allowance for the judges to write comments so therefore there is a gap of 8 mins between horses.
