Can anyone recommend a nice yard around the Newton Abbot area? I'm moving down that way next week, so need to find somewhere fairly soon!! I'm just a happy hacker with three horses who're all desperate for grass!! (There's nowt about in Bedfordshire!) So, good grazing and nice, friendly people are a must!

There used to be a place called Coombe Martin in Totnes. I used to ride there and they were a lovely yard with good facilities. I'm talking about 12/13 years ago mind so they may have changed a bit since :D.

They're in Totnes so not too far from Newton Abbot :). Contact details here Good luck :).

I've had recent stress with finding a livery yard. Not fun!.

I think you mean Coombe Park? that place has now been taken over by the Mare & Foal Sanctuary so is no longer a livery yard

I'm not sure if this place does liveries (I think it does they have a couple of our ponies on loan, it is a riding school but worth a try and it they can't might be able to point you in the right direction http://hayesfarm.webs.com/ Okwood Stables is just down the road from there too http://www.oakwoodfarmridingcentre.co.uk/

There are quite a few unofficial places around but they are more word of mouth, there's quite a few up on the moors. Babeny are a well known trekking centre on the moors not far from Newton, again not sure on the livery front but they may be able to help

Ruth Levy-So s very nice and does liveries at her place, it's about 20 mins or so from NA, sure if you e-mailed her though again she might have some ideas, she is an EP and knows a lot of the locals http://www.hoofmatters.co.uk/

Thanks for the info guys!! I'm trying to avoid riding schools as long as possible (I've got a just backed three year old and an ex-racehorse who would probably appreciate somewhere quieter) but I may have to consider it-like I said, I'm getting desperate! Thanks jhoward, I looked up Bridford on the map, it's about 15 miles away, which is a bit too far :o( . It wouldn't be so bad if I only had one, but nobody seems to have room for three! A good reason to stop collecting horses ;0)

There's a place just outside Ashburton, which is like 5/10 mins from newton...Umm I'm afraid I don't have the mans phone no., but he's called Mr Will Wale, and he's a farmer, it's totally DIY (£20 a week) and he has quite a lot of grazing and 6/7 stables I think, he had several places available last time I heard. He has straw and hay onsite
I don't have an exact address either, I know it by walking past haha! But I looked on google maps and I'd guess it's a lane off Headborough road - it's right opposite a car place called Ashtons - they had an address and phone no. Ausewell, Ashburton, Newton Abbot, Devon TQ13 7HF
01364 653 366
Doesn't really help much though :(

Ummm others that I know of:
Stidston Equestrian, they're run by a lovely woman called Gail Winnecott, it's primarily a livery yard and breaking yard, they do diy, part, full etc, and have an outdoor school with jumps, there address is
Brook Cottage
South Brent, Devon TQ10 9JT
01364 73135

Cheston farm is good, but they only do full livery, they have fantastic facilities (indoor & outdoor schools, horsewalker, and beautiful hacking on dartmoor) again Sophie and Andrew who run it are lovely people :)
there address is:
Cheston Farm
Wrangaton, South Brent, Devon TQ10 9HL
01364 73266

There is a place at Liverton, don't know much about it except some people I know go there for lessons: Rora Farm, Newton Abbot TQ12 6HZ. Barbara Macilroy, riding school and liveries , well-established quality tuition. Tel 01626 821257

Liverton is pretty close to newton abbot.

Also depends if you need stabling (which I assume you do with an exracer) but if you didn't, maybe try some farms as well, you might find a farmer willing to rent you some land, there are loads of farms round here!

Not sure if these are all abit far away for you, and obv. you may have already found somewhere!

But anyway I hope this was helpful :)

Thank you everyone!!! I have found a yard, it's a bit further away than I would have liked, but as I'm due to be moving house again early next year (nightmare!!), I will hang on to your suggestions in case I move into one of those areas mentioned.

Thanks again loads!!
