My hat is getting a bit loose  and I have had it for around 5/6 years, so I think I'm due a nice shiny new one!

I am on a budget tho, poor student and all :o

I wouldn't mind a skull cap or a proper hat, but I suppose a skull cap is more multi-purpose?

Whaddya think?

TIA! *shortbread for aaallll!*

TG xx

I would also go for a skull cap, then you can use it for any horse sport you like! Also handy for the pretty silks! I prefer Charles Owen or Champion as I believe they are the only ones made in the UK. This is a useful link which gives you info on what to look for and also the safety standards http://www.beta-uk.org/pages/safety/hats.php
I would go along to somewhere that stocks plenty of different makes and models so you can find something that fits really nicely! I have a charles owen kids skull (just as safe as the adults, just cheaper and has cartoons inside!!).

I think I have a champion kiddies one too! I love my fancy silks, makes me feel like slightly less of an egg head :o

Must get one in my 'colours', red and navy!

Erm, sorry, YOU Think you have a massive mushroom head?

Take a look at any of my riding pics and you will see that you are quite wrong!!

then I wish I had a pic of me trying on velvet caps - looked bl**dy awful!! Would never have thought a 'slimline' showjumping hat could look so massive!!

horsecrazy she wants one on a budget! i have the champion ventair skull cap as only cost me £12 as old one was fitted badly have had a charles owen kiddy one very nice quite comfy allthough badly fitted for me and i really liked my old champion velvet fitted me for ages and very comfy too only the velvet has fallen off and so has the button bit on the top sill have it in the boot of the car though lol

Champions aint cheap but she might be aloud to spend a bit extra!!!

pffft for a proper hat one there £75 - £80 and higher! also at riding school a skull hat is much more practical

Woah, guys!

I would be willing to spend more to protect my head, as you only get one! And yes, a skull cap would be more multi-purpose, but it depends entirely on what fits my mahoosive head

We can all say what we like best (me personally I'm a champion ventair fan, but that was what fit me best), but the safest and most practical thing for you to do TG is to go to a shop where someone is properly trained in hat fitting and getting one fitted to your head properly. Theres no point having a nice shiney one, or one with a ventilation strip if it doesnt fit properly!!! I discovered how important a well fitting hat was a few weeks ago when I head butted tarmac and have also thrown my old 'spare' away as i didnt realise how loose it was until I needed to use it while I replaced my damaged hat. Sorry lecture over :o lol

I have a Dublin Onyx hat, it is cheap by hat standards at about £50 BUT it is the only one that will fit my enormous head, the rest are too narrow! I think (correct me if I'm wrong) it still conforms to all the necessary safety standards, and that is good enough for me!

I have recently bought a riding hat from Decathlon - for 9 pounds. :D And it's the bestest most lovely looking hat I have ever tried. Shiny black finish, yyaayy :) I have a real issue with hats since my head is massive (61 cm), so this was a real godsend since you can adjust it with a dial in the back of the hat to fit even the cleverest people :D

I have just bought a Champion ventair and love it. Its black with a silver vent but you can get them in navy, pink or silver as well. Went into my local countrywide shop and had a lady help me try on loads. The Ventair in there was about £85 though and they didn't have a cheaper make in my size, so went online and found this website:

and saved myself about £20! Naughty I know but needs must when one is skint!:o
