Need a rant .....

Arrgghhh Men!!

Decided to let my boy have a little loose jump today after being lunged, just for fun. I do this on my own now and then and all goes well and he seems to enjoy himself.

Well today the boyfriend was there, so said he'd help. Great I thought two pairs of hands :)

It was all going fine, horse jumping nicely, ears pricked etc, about 1.30 high little oxer.

Boyfriend then decides to put it up to 1.60m .... I say thats too high, he's no need to jump that high.... he says he can do it ... so I let him get on with it against my better judgement. As I guessed, horse canters up to it and thinks no thanks and refuses. He tries him again .. same thing happens.

End result we have a big argument cos I think he has over faced my poor boy, he stomps off and the poor horse won't go anyway near the jumping lane!

I ended up getting him to pop over 3ft on my own in the end. I'm worried this may have knocked his confidence :( Men!!!!!!!!!!!
 
If you new your horse wasn't capable or you wasn't happy with the height why did you proceed, by letting the horse attemp it.... Why not just say to your bf no, you no your horses capability so whether your bf likes it or not it's tuff.
 
I don't "expect" anyone to say anything, as the post title says I just wanted a rant as sitting here going over it in my head and getting angrier and angrier that I didn't stick to my guns and say no instead of getting bullied into trying it.

Sorry I meant little as in not particularly wide and in my opinon quite high enough.

He is horsey, although he doesnt have one anymore.

Mulled wine maybe you are right, next time we will stick to jdoing it just me and the horse.
 
Well there u go copperpot, u know next time to stick to your guns because you know your horse.
Sorry but I'm not normally so blunt, I just thought FFS as I read your post, what was she thinking, over facing could have ended in disaster etc...
But you know this and sound pretty cross with yourself for letting it happen.
 
It's an important lesson to learn, unfortunately not a nice one :(

Don't let anyone push you into something you don't believe is right, that goes for instructors/trainers as much as friends and family.

I once let a very experienced and highly regarded trainer on my (easygoing but a bit of a 'worrier') horse. Ended up watching him bully my boy into jumping from a mega deep spot, which he hates to do (too careful for his own good). Cue a very confused horse with a cut mouth :mad: :mad:

Take him back to baby jumps if you think he's going to be worried, let him have a play over a few xpoles with no pressure :)
 
Yes I won't dump him cos livery is expensive and with him gone i'd have to pay the mortgage and all the bills too :)

I am very annoyed with myself but also with him, as yes he is my horse and i know what he is capable of and at this moment in time/fitness/jumping practice etc i thought it was too much. I did say this but hey i don't know my horse best it would seem :(

Plus it was supposed to be a bit of fun for him, he's not a show jumper, never want him to be, so no need for it.

I have learnt my lesson!!!

Well i feel better now to have ranted so thanks :) Couldn't rant on facebook as he'd see it, cue another row lol :)
 
Not trying to be nasty but I can't understand why you would allow someone to put a jump up 30cms in one go at that sort of height. Your boyfriend doesn't have any responsibility to your horse you do. It drives me mad when people free jump horses big when they aren't confident at that height anyway.
 
He has been jumped under saddle at not far below that, 5cms less, but not for a while and not loose.

Error of judgment is all i can say, other half got carried away and i was to wussy to stick to my guns.

I tend to trust everyone as think most people know better than me, but perhaps i shall adopt the trust no one rule :)

Oh Mulled wine they do think they know best don't they!!! Do that, do this or more usually don't do it like that etc etc.

Once i actually said you get on and do it then, and said horse gave me a peach of a moment when he proceed to bronk my boyfriend off :) Gotta love horses!!!
 
Just look at it as a lesson learnt. You know what blokes are like mine likes to take over everything or sits and tells me i am doing wrong right now im sat on my ass and his vaccumning (sp) got to the point now just let him get on with everything as he is obviously better at everything ! How dare i think i know anything:D
