I have a mare on loan for 8 months. She was for sale when I found her online. She is 16hh ISH, no vices, no breeding recorded. When I got her she was at a pretty basic level. She had done some pony club and a bit of cross country with owner's daughter. She was out of work for 3 months, didn't work in an outline, was very heavy on the leg and lazy, jumped about 80 cm. Lovely in stable, easy box shoe etc
I have now got her to the point that she is doing lovely dressage, will be registered with SJI doing Amateurs up to 1m20. Out of curiousity, I asked the owner what the asking price was for her 8 months ago.
She said €7-8k!!!!

Am I nuts, or is that a crazy price to have been asking for a mare with no breeding or competition record??
Anyhoo, lucky for me she didn't sell cos I have a lovely loan horse now!

Yeah, I was thinking about that. But I want the experience of Amateurs for myself, so I'll just keep going until the arrangement runs its course. I'll prob get my own young prospect at that point. :-)
I worry about the owner's expectations. The only way she will achieve 8k is if she has a strong competitive record at Amateur level. The horses online now for 8k have a strong record and points, are younger (she's 13), and impressive breeding (she has none recorded). To be honest, I'm not sure the owner has much of a clue about the horse market.
