I had to make the decision to put my girl up for sale a few weeks ago due total lack of time and facilities - she's capable of so much more than I can offer her.

I had someone come to view her last weekend (the lovely AmiRobertson on here) and it was raining and the grass paddock was soaking wet. I would never have usually ridden on it but Ami had travelled a long way and I wanted to show her what Celine could do. I asked for canter on a corner and Celine just slipped and totally lost her back end landing on her side and on my leg. Celine walked away absolutely fine, but I ended up with a broken leg and being told to not ride for at least 6 months.

Now I'm at an absolute loss - a friend is looking after Celine at the moment and exercising her for me but I can't rely on her too long. Celine is advertised but I'm just having no interest in this current market - people just asking for a free horse or full loans which wouldn't be realistic for us. I also can't work to help pay to get Celine through winter if she does stay - I'm totally useless!

I am just at a complete loss.

the only thing going well is Celine - she's in great condition and is working really well. She desperately needs to get out and about and I feel like she's totally wasted with me.

i was absolutely gutted about selling anyway but now I feel awful - the whole worlds rested on my shoulders at the moment and I just needed a rant. So thank you for any one who reads this.

broke my collar bone last week so i can bear your pain! no riding for me for ten weeks and no one else can physically ride my pony so im not looking forward too getting back on him :-/

Turn her away - grass livery. Horses don't 'need to be useful', if you can't sell her, just turn her away. Stop beating yourself up over it.

That's awful luck. My horse slipped over on a tarmac drive and fell on his side yesterday too. ( Spooked by fast motorbike) I think I was still in the saddle when he landed. Nothing broke but every joint on the side we landed on is bruised and grazed. I think I got lucky. Don't give up there's bound to be a nice reason out there who will give her a good home. :)

Gosh so sorry to see this! Poor you hope you mend soon x x can u put her on sales livery so you don't have to do anything? Failing that yes see if you can find grass livery and turn away. Good luck x x

How old is she? A year turned out wouldn't hurt anyone as long as you can keep up the grazing payments....unshod with occasional trims.....

I agree with this, she won't care too hoots if she only ever hacks for the rest of her life and certainly won't mind 6 months off over the winter - maybe a retirement type livery - then when you're right in the spring get her back and into work - if you still want to/ need to sell you might have much more luck in spring

Do you get on with her OP?
If you do, why not turn her away and then when you can ride just enjoy her and do as much with her as you are able? She has no idea she could be doing more than she is and doesn't care either!
Sorry to hear you've not had much luck.

Put her in working livery at reputable agricultural college? Will at least give your leg time to heal so then you will be able to show her properly to potential buyers.

Another who'd suggest turn away, I broke my ankle pretty badly almost 4 months ago (pinned and plated back together!) I was initially told 6 months before I was riding, but good physio saw me back in the saddle after only 11 weeks and I had my first gallop and jump this weekend 15 weeks after my accident. I turned my boy away and he has come back stronger and better than before. He is only 5 though so it did him the world of good! Hope you legs heals well, what ever you do get some good physio even if you have to pay privately, it will be worth it!
