Need a shetland size shelter - any ideas?

I need to seperate my TB from his companion shetland because he needs haylage as he is already starting to loose condition despite being rugged and having 2 feeds a day of Alpha-Oil, Baileys No 4 and sugarbeet and cornoil (teeth and worming all up to date) and short of bringing him in over night which he wont be happy with (nor will his arthiritis!) I dont know what else to do. I thought I could feed ablib haylage to him at night in his stable which he has access to 24/7 and let him still be able to go out in his 3 acre field. In order to do this I need to keep the shettie away from the haylage so need to separate a section of the field off near the stable and provide some shelter so she can go in there at night.

So (she gets there eventually!!!!) can anyone suggest how to make a small cheap shelter that will keep worst of rain / wind off the little one ??
 
Garden shed? That's the only thing that springs to mind, but I'm not the most creative of people!! I'm sure others have much better suggestions!!!

Have you no natural shelter ie. hedges for the Shetland? My three are out 24/7 and have no field shelter to go in so just use the hedges. (They all come out of the winter not losing any weight, including the aged 7/8 tb!) Shetlands are pretty hardy creatures so I think it should be alright. Horses have different skins to us and don't feel the cold like we do. All the pampering we give them is sometimes more for our benefit than theirs!
 
get a garden shed off ebay.. one that you can build yourself that is weather proof.. so if you are on strip grazing or something, it can be moved easier than a ready built one!

The thing is that I actually need to fence a part of the paddock off for her so that my boy could come and go out of the stable / field as he wanted and have access to the hayledge ad lib. The only part I could section off for her has no natural shelter just a flat corner of the paddock.

I guess that a shed is my best bet unless anyone has any blue peter ideas using fence panels / roofing sheets??
(The shettie isnt mine and her owner just boards her with me in return for poo picking so I dont really want to fork out for a new shed and her owner cant/ wont!!)
 
I might be a horrid owner but I would have said that a shettie would probably be alright without a shelter. D lives out in a field without a shelter, not ideal but better than her coughing or getting stressy because she's kept in at night. If the shettie starts to lose condition I would have thought that it would be much chepaer and easier to buy a mini rug.
 
My 2 shelties have no shelter. We live up on top of a hill. The big horses have rugs on but the my little shelties have nothing. Bad weather is what they were bred for,
 
How big is the shelter? Is there any way you could section it off down the middle with electric fencing or rails or section some field off on the other side of it and extend out off it..
or could you feed the tb his haylage out of a haynet/or hayrack (not ideal I know) so the shettie only get scraps..

Alternatively and probably cheaper...buy him a little rug to keep the rain off and get some huge straw bales (3) to make a windbreak...you could even fix a tarpaulin on the top as a roof..

People who have my one of my minis on loan, built her a mini sized stable, only took them 3 hours...but the he is a carpenter type person

Might be a nice idea if your shetland wants to live in luxury

Thats fantastic - I dont even need the front part / door. I am sure I could get hubbie to make one of those!! What did they use for the roof ? And is it lined inside with taurpaulin?

Thanks to everyone for replies. Totally agree that shetlands should be quite happy with no shelter / rugs. But...... she would be a tennis court sized paddock with just electric fencing around her mostly - no hedges / trees - nothing and we are quite exposed here.
 
I think its tarpauline inside, or like stuff you line ponds with which arent quite tarpauline... its all rainproof and kickboxed or whatever, and then wooden roof with tarpauline type material on top (while since i went there)
and a little manger in the corner if i recall...tiny but plenty of room for a shetland to lie down
