Horse has had trouble chewing, has start of EORTH but very very, very mild changes in his front teeth roots but he does have a bridge forming on the end.

He is also struggling to chew further back, spits out half chewed nuts, as well as starting to store and quid grass. And randomly druels and spilts out saliva.

Investigations so far,

Vet dentist for xrays (fronts only) and rasp. Nothing to note

Bute trial, nothing changed

Full mouth xrays, nothing to note on them

We are now looking at a CT scan. Or just medicating TMJ area and seeing what happens but he is cushings and I dont want to chuck steriods in of I can help it. Plus is it doesnt work it will be CT anyway.

Has anyone else has any werid symptoms like the above that dont show anything on physical examination?

Any ideas?

Just getting quoates for CT as RVC scanner is broken so they are reffering to Bell Equine. Which is 2 plus hours down the m25 from us one way and horse is 16 now so again another factor to consider.

Or as he is eating grass and hayledge mostly fine, loosing a bit of weight but other wise ok, hold off and manage until RBC have fixed theirs or something changes for the worst?

Edited to and more information.

I would very frankly ask the vets what the possible causes could be, given that teeth and bony issues have been ruled out through x-ray. Then ask how treatable those things would be, for a horse of that age and other medical issues. That discussion should inform you enough to decide whether you want to wait and see, or scan now, and what you'd do if those conditions were found.

I would wait and as long as the nearer scanner is not going to be a very long time out of action go there ,however just over two hours is not a long journey
Just make sure he’s given sloppy food before you head back .
If the nearer scanner is going to be a long time you should probably take the trip to the further one .
I think if I were you I would get a panel of blood work done now this might tell you things that give clues as to the urgency of the situation.
If his head swells at any point you need blood work immediately ,your worse case scenario is he has a cancer that is why I asked if he was grey .

Thanks.

He has had a few blood tests this year and only low white bloods have shown which have cleared after some propell plus.

There has been no swelling or anything like that at all.
