just a musing really as my go to joint supplement has always been cortaflex ,but havnt used it for a few years and just wondering what people think is the best to use now? im open to views on balancers that might help also .:-) just to add im particularly looking to improve my veterans hocks that hes starting to stiffen up on

I used to feed Cortaflex, stopped using it, didn't notice a difference, so haven't used it since! That being said it is one of the few that has actually been tested etc.

I use Boswellia Serrata for the joints now, and if I need something extra I use Devil's Claw powder.

Tbh with an older horse I wouldn't be adverse to using Danilon if it provided relief :)

thanks LJR the only problem ive got is hes prone to ulcers so dont want to go down the danilon/bute route yet as hes only just starting to get a little bit more than stiff ,hes only a light hack and i try to get him out everyday to stretch his legs. living out isnt an option hes an ex competition horse and would be furious lol .tbh a friends horse has just been diagnosed and injected for hock spavins at 10 yrs old and only ever been a hack and it got me thinking about my 22 yr olds legs as hes had a much harder life . hes not bad enough for vet intervention im just thinking about the future

i use turmeric on one of mine , he has a stiff clicky hock and it's made a huge difference, a friend swears by Global Herbs if you wanted to try a natural herb approach, she had 2 oldies and i know they do a couple of mixes , one targets hocks, can't remember all of them but one is called Move Right? they are very helpful if you phone for advice

Here you go ~> A for arthritis previous H&H members reports http://horse-care-and-advice.weebly.com/a.html

Riaflex Devils alternative had really helped an old boy at my yard, he was getting very stiff and this has given him a new lease of life.

Green lipped muscle has really made a difference to my horse with stiff/arthritic hocks. Maxaflex sell a good one to start with, mine has always done well on this but I have also been recommended yumove (I think that's the right spelling!) they make supplements for people and dogs too and are meant to be a slightly purer version of green lipped muscle.
