Im bringing my girly back into full work after a few months off due to both my ill health and hers.
The problem being that she has rather a lot of strength behind her!
She is being schooled in a pelham with roundings, and is hacked in a ported reverse army pelham on the 2nd setting.
She is a good girl, and listens to me and my aids in walk and canter, but I find myself being taken at speed in whatever direction she wishes in trot!! How bad is that - ran away with in trot! lol!
My problem is that she sets her (substantial!) neck and justs sets off!! She never actually bolts, I just look like a tot on a shetland trying to rise to her!! Aparantly she looks fab, but Id rather be in control!
She is in a flash, and I did wonder about trying a grackle, but what are your thoughts??
Cheers Ears x

You sure shes running away with you and that shes not just getting unbalanced and rushing because shes stressing? Just seems strange for her to be good in walk and canter but not in trot.........

It is usually when she is on the way home or excited in some way... she is unbalanced and on the forehand at the mo as we have only recently started schooling properly and taking lessons. I think, as you say vieshot, she is rushing, but its only out hacking, and I feel as though I have a piece of cotton in her mouth! :-)

Generic question, but are her back/ teeth/ saddle etc all up to date?

A horse I used to know used to rush in trot because the "up down,' movement of trotting made her more uncomfortable than when the rider was sitting ..if that makes sence?!

Hi Fleabite, yes she is all up to date with everthing, she is ridden in a treeless saddle as she is too wide to fit a 'normal' saddle correctly (she has had a lot of weight probs dating back several years before I got her.) She does seem better when I sit now you mention it....But this only really manifests itself when hacking. She is also much better in company than on her own. Could it be a confidence issue??
