niece's pony been with new family for just over a week, this pony never put a foot wrong when they tryed him, (never does anyway).
but there now ringing saying hes all this that and the other totally not our barney, saying if my sister doesn't take him back then hes going to beeston auctions on the 14th.

we would have him back and want him back anyway if this is how they treat there ponys but the money from him has gone to buy the nieces new pony.

i can get some money together but not nearly what they paid for him, what should i do?

if we had know that they were like this he would never have been sold to them in the first place.

plus is beeston auction on the 14th feb tryed to google it but no luck
 
i would try to neg a price to get him back with them if you dont want to lose him or come to some agreement with them, would be a shame for a good pony to end up at the sales
 
they won't get back what they paid for him at the sales anyway so if they are genuine about selling him I would have thought they would listen to offers
 
The next Beeston auction is on the 14th Feb they are held every fortnight so im reliably told. Sorry. someone i know was in the same situation only last week. They bought the pony back at discounted rate. If you make an offer to them they may accept, even if its lower than what they gave you if it saves the hassle of going to auction and loosing even more money.
 
Ask them what they are feeding him as I sold a horse a few years ago, she was gentle as a lamb with the manners of a saint. I told them what to feed her and a week later, they were on the phone telling me that she was pulling their arms off when on the ground and when ridden. This was definately so unlike her so when I asked them what they were feeding her, they had been feeding her double the feed at tea time and the same for her breakfast. I didn`t feed her breakfast, so it worked out that they were feeding her 4 times the amount she should`ve been having! Naturally I told them to cut it out completely for a few days then just feed what I told them to feed her. Never heard anything else!
Some people don`t realise how much food can change a horses personality, so it is worth asking.

What a terrible situation.

I agree with above post, ask what they are feeding him, this can affect the temprement of some ponys a lot.

I cannot believe they are giving up after a week!! Do they not realise that it can take them time to settle in? This pony has been taken away from a family he knew, taken away from his horsey friends and no doubt has a totally different routine than he is used to.

When I bought my horse he appeared to settle in right away. Although for the first week he was rearing and spinning in circles when walking down to the field, I thought OMG im sure they must have sedated this horse when I went to look at him as he was the most laid bck horse ever, i felt totally out of my depth. But after a week he was back to his usual self. It took months for me to bond with him and build up his trust.

Try explaining this to them. If they still want rid I would try to negotiate a price with them to avoid loosing out on him at the auction. I would think though that they are just trying it on with you regarding Beeston to get you to buy him back. No one IMO who truly cares about their ponys welfare will send him to an auction without a VERY valid reason.

well, the 2 girls have a website and they have put his picture up on there ect, they are competant riders both jump ponies bsja ect.
they took him on the saturday, and were going to compete him on the sunday (didn't say anything about this till they were leaving the yard)
at first i thought they were trying it on to get us to take him back because they had seen something else. but how can they send a good pony to the sales. i don't really want to have to go to the sales for him as they will only bid up the price and this would risk losing him.
god my bl**dy sister never listens, i told her not to sell him niece is so up her ar*e she takes no notice either.

Where do they live Storm?

Beeston is quite local to me and the kids are off next week so I could go with the trailer if you want? (Unless you have transport anyway).

How much did they give for him? Last time I went to Beeston most horses/ponies were only around the £1k mark and alot were unsold as they didn't meet their reserve.
 
they paid £1700 thats why im suprised they would even go to auction with him. but that said they were flashing the cash about a bit so really i don't think they care about what they get for him.
there in cheshire not really sure where as i never saw them my sister was dealing with it.
i may well be there next week too, (just to give her a black eye or 2, just kidding) but hopefully we will get him back before then.
i bet shes one of those pushy mothers who think seconds are no good lol.
will let you all know tommorrow how we get on with the phone call, but i reckon as shes not seen me i will have to bid for him at auction.
 
Tell them your financial position and offer to pay in installments. If they care about the welfare of the animal, I would hope they would accept your offer.

If they dont, and you cant come up with the money, then offer to take him back and sell on their behalf, that way you can ensure he goes to a good home.
 
sorry havent read all replys but i have had this happen i would
a offer to take pony bacck for a week ot two to see how he goes on and hopefuly prove its just the move in the hope they then have him back and give him time and or offer same and to sell him on for them if they dont want him back
or go to sale and hope you have enough to buy him but get someone else to do the bidding so they dont know its you
