Hi there i am on the hunt for my first 3.5 tonne van/ box i have about £10k ish to play with looking to transport 2 x max 14.2hh M&M ponies so payload is important.

My area for looking in north of England and Scotland would prefer from someone that builds them and can give a warranty of some sort, can anyone PM their recommendations pretty please.

Many thanks from a lost Scottish lassy

Things I learnt from my first 3.5t horsebox...

The chassis is everything!!!! If paying for a conversion then make sure a mechanic has been all over it BEFORE you convert it. It is worth every penny to get newer and low mileage even if you don't get such a fancy finish.

Payload is vital! Don't touch anything with less than 1000kg else you'll find it really difficult to sell on! It is worth the extra for something with a greater payload.

Hire a few and look (with you horses help) at the practicalities of the design. I realise my horse made a bloody mess and the tack being in a locker separately would have been worth every penny!!

Oh & make sure it is reinforced behind the driver.

Hope this helps!!

thanks you sooo much guys for your replies in the throws of moving house at the moments so not on as much as i would like at the mo :) keep the recommendations coming xx

Totally agree with you Becki.

I forgot to say in my PM that I have the extra long top door on mine, so the ramp is square, but the top door extends along the chassis to the right. This is INVALUABLE if you're going to put big horses in it, otherwise they have to crick their necks back to fit out of a square top door. My 17.1 boy fits in mine easily (it's 7'8 headroom), but without the extended ramp i don't think he'd be so easy to get out again!
