Hi All,
Planning to be on the move to find our forever home and have our dream of having the horses at home. Hacking is really important to us but haven't been able to find much about where the good hacking (off road) is despite seeming to spend my life on google!! Can anyone offer any info on this? Is where you live great or terrible for this? As a general area we are considering somerset/north devon area or up north to the cumbria-ish area.
Please help!!!!

Parts of the Chilterns are fab but you need to pick your area carefully as there are parts where there is also a lot of road work.

North Hertfordshire to the East of Stevenage is excellent. Around the Quantock Hills or Exmoor in Somerset is excellent. Mid Wales to the East of LLanadwi Breffi is the best as you can hack for miles and miles.

put Shipham in multimap and you will see a hill to east, then have a look at the bridleways.............................i use to live there when i was younger and moved because it was boring i now can't get my OH to consider moving to there

Dorset is my dream of hacking heaven

Mid Devon looks good, its nice where I am too in Northants!

Norfolk have fab riding on the Peddars Way, Thetford fab hacking. Sherwood Forest. Parts of Leics, Northants, Rutland. South Downs, Quantock Hills. Just some of the places I have ridden.

my instructor lives in Wiltshire around West Knoyle area....the hacking is TO DIE FOR!!! I went out with her in the summer and you could actually hack around there all day without ever having to go near a road!! wide open grassy fields, woodlands, fords to paddle in, big hills with amazing views etc...she lives on a hill and although the hacking is amazing....there is never a day where it isn't windy. I live in somerset and it depends where in Somerset...my hacking is ok but not as amazing as some places.

In Somerset the areas around the Quantocks are lovely

If I could choose anywhere, I wouldn't go far, just up to near Badminton. My friend lives in Hillesely and the hacking is fab, I believe most of it belongs to the Duke of Beaufort as his sort of "game farm" as its houndreds and houndreds of acres with some pheasants running about! Of course it is all well kept and you can go for ages and ages without meeting a road

Come to the Cotswolds! Particularly the area between Cheltenham and Oxford.
I live in Charlton Abbotts (middle of nowhere, near Sudeley Castle) and we have access to 4,500 acres of setaside and lovely hunt jumps as the landlord is horsey and fab! This back directly onto 2,000 acres of Cleeve common, so never, ever have to go onto a road.
