I brought an unhandled just 4 New Forest Pony in April, he settled well and after a couple of weeks let me groom him and put a head collar on, i sat on him bareback and walked round no issues, i then moved him to my other field and he revertered back to being wild again wouldn't let me near him and kept kicking out with his front legs even chased me out of the field twice, i perceivered and after afew weeks got his head coller back on and started leading him out. I then tried to get a bridle on him but has soon has i went near his ears he went to bite me, also if i groom down the sidee were he wont let me touch his ear he bites. Help.:(

Might need checking for issues around the ear , could have pain/infection .
Kepp him in the smaller field and handle daily

Do you bring him in daily? I found my unhandled colt came round quicker when brought in every night (as long as there is a buddy next door) Another Q- is he gelded?

Little and often.

Don't ask for the moon.

Just go into his field with a carrot and bite of small pieces. Feed them to him if he comes to you and walk away.

If he strikes out at you, make yourself big and ask him to back up. Intimidate him for behaving badly in your space. Watch for him to start to lick and chew. Then back down and relax with him.

You haven't told us very much so it is difficult to gauge the whole situation.

Is he kept on his own?
