Can anyone recommend a feed for more energy/sparkle?

Currently on Saracen Enduro but it's not enough, horse is in medium work and copes well generally but on occasion I feel like I have to push him to get extra work out of him when extra energy is needed (eg, when jumping) and I don't want to be nagging him.

I'm looking for something more sparkly than Enduro, he's not the type to lose his head but i don't want to feed a bucket of oats either.

Thankyou

Consider a muscle myopathy like EPSM/PSSM, especially if the horse has any heavy horse blood. It can masquerade as laziness.

It may be a good idea to ask yourself why your horse is seemingly lacking in energy especially as the feed you are using has been formulated to meet the demands of the high level equine athlete.

Be aware that feeding a high energy diet can have the oposite effect, it can cause obesity increasing the risk of colic, laminitis, and contribute to increased sweat loss and exercise intolerance. Fat can be added to a feed to increase the energy density of the diet. Fat has 9 Mcal/kg of energy, which is three times that of any grain or carbohydrate source.

Horses that are seemingly lazy/lacking in energy as your horse is may be uncomfortable or hurting somewhere.

Have you tried talking to someone at Saracens ? they should be able to advise you.

all the best

My boy is fit and at the right weight but sometimes he did lack energy, he is fed top spec lite, speedy beet and oats, I find it does help with his stamina.
