As per my previous posts, I am 'puppysitting' a couple of terrier puppies, I think that they are between 8 and 10 weeks old, probably nearer 8 than 10. We are starting to get the house training sussed, no accidents other than over night (thanks to previous, very helpful advice!).

However, both puppies (which came from a farm - not a puppy farm, just born on a farm) had worms, I have wormed them with panacur puppy wormer for 3 days as per the manufacturers instructions, and they have both passed a number of worms, although this seems to have stopped now. Their both have pretty runny poo though. They are being fed Pedigree puppy wet food, I am trying to meal feed it now, 4 times a day - prior to that, the food was pretty much left down all the time. They are also going nearly everytime they go out (every couple of hours at least).

Is this normal for young puppies that have had worms? They have both got an appointment with their new owners on Tuesday for a vet check. They are both bright and playful, eating well and drinking water.

Any advice / info greatfully received!

Sounds down to the wormer. I'd keep the fluids up this right it self in a day or so. Lots of papers down. Good hygiene around them.

I won't let them go to the new owner till cleared up . I'd give the new owner a phone call explaining whats wrong think they be happy to hang on till the puppies are well. I think they understand. They had all clear by the vet.

Good Luck

yep....it is normal for them to become loose once wormed...assuming that they have become loose since u wormed them...... as long as they are bright in themselves and are still on the same food....they should dry up....i would also hold onto them until they have dried up....if the dirrhoea persists u should get them checked by the vet, u may have to introduce a bland diet, then gradually reintroduce normal diet until dried up....im sure they will be fine.

change of food can also cause loose faeces(so if u have introduced meal aswell as the meat this can cause the squitters...it should always be done gradually/small portions to reduce the severity of the squitters.
p.s it is very normal for young puppies to have worms.

when they do go to their new homes....give the new owners a little bit of food that u have them on and advise if they want to change the diet to do it gradually along side theold food.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated! I have always had dogs, but never quite such young puppies! The little girl now has firm poo, but she was a day ahead on the wormer, so I suppose that was to be expected. I should clarify, when I said meal feeding, I meant feeding in meals, rather than changing the food - they had previously had it down all the time which I think wasn't helping the toilet training issues.

The new owners are very good friends of mine, and I have bought enough food for a good week, and they will continue the same regimen. All I have to do now is give them up!!

Thanks again.

if the runny poos dont stop i would get them off to the vets only because my dog started with this and he became quite ill had the runs for a couple of months never found out what it was but hes ok now.it could also be that the food is to rich for them try them on a dried food such as BETA pup or james wellbeloved thats a good food i have read alot on foums about pedigree food that it is quite rich for a pup and 3/4 of it is water so there isnt much goodness in meat as there is in dried food.just a thought hope this helps keep us updated

agree what others said about it being due to the wormer..

If they still have diarrhoea (am guesing maybe not by now!) you can feed them mashed potato (just plain) with a bit of boiled/ steamed chicken... mash really settles their stomachs. You can also feed rice instead of potatoes - but it needs to be over cooked

Hope they ok

My puppy also had diarrhoea. Wormed etc and still did not stop. Found the food to be the source of the problem eventually after much fretting and vet visiting. Had rice intolerance - started prescription diet and much to my horror stopped the diarrhoea after 4 months of trying to sort it (horror cos diet so expensive). Try giving chicken and mash and scrambled egg for a couple of days and see if things change and this might give you some idea if food related

Good luck
