I moved to my new yard a few weeks ago an its lovely, everyone is sooooo nice as well, i had my first lesson with my new instructor last Saturday and it went really well, buuuuutttttt, an this may sound really stupid but i feel really sillly schooling my horse as everyone at my new yard seems so bloody experienced an there horses are so nice.

Me and my horse need abit more work, but i am worried that people will be laughing at me when i ride.

I need somthing to motivate me and get me going again so i dont feel so bloody stupid.

Any ideas?

Every experienced rider was once a novice. Every well schooled horse was once un-backed.

The trick with schooling is to set yourself an aim for the session and work on it with a passion. Genuinely experienced people do not look down on the less experienced who are tying to improve, only the know-it-alls.
Remember, no matter how experienced you are or how much you know there will always be someone with more experience and knowledge but the person who has it all cracked does not exist.

So go enjoy your horse......thats why you have it

It's understandable that you'll be apprehensive having moved to a new yard. You're surounded by new people, got a new instructor etc. But you have said that the people there are really nice, so what if they're a bit further down the road than you are at the moment....they were at your point at one time. You'll probably find that they will be very supportive of what you are trying to achieve, you have an instructor to help you so you're doing everything right.

I think you are worrying unnecesarily, give it a little time & you'll settle in & find out that all is going to be well & you'll really enjoy being there....chin up

You are doing the right things, you are having lessons. No one will judge you especially as you are getting help. No one is a perfect rider and even the best will have off days. Keep up with your lessons and you'll be fine.

No one will be laughing at you

Good advice from the others here. If you feel a little self conscious, set yourself a target and start by just walking. So much can be achieved simply in the walk. You could practice a simple W&T test, 5m and 10m circles, half 10m - change rein and half 10m (if that makes sence). Centre lines, halts for varying lengths of time, leg yielding, shoulder in etc.

Before you know it you will have forgotten who's watching you (if they are at all)

There is a woman at our yard who is really good rider (advanced medium dressage) and I hate riding when she is there cos I feel really rubbish, like Im flapping about like a novice! Last night she was riding at the same time as me and she gave me some tips which really helped and by the end of the session my horse was going beautifully!

Don't worry about the other people on the yard, if they have anything about them they will either leave you to get on with it and not bother you or maybe help you out if you need it. Try and focus on you, instead! Good luck!
