Need new boots - are Dublin River boots really that bad?

My boots have just split open at the seam :( They's only 6 months old, so I'm off to Countrywide to see if I can trade them in against a new pair.

They were Dublin Sprint jodhpur/yard boots, but with winter coming I would rather get long boots - I need them mainly for riding (hacking), traipsing round fields in the mud and the occasional bit of dog walking.

Looking at the Countrywide website they have the following:

Dublin River Boots
Mark Todd Winter Cook Boots
Ariat Windermere
Dublin Pinnacle

I like the look of the River boots, but have heard bad things about them, and now have had 2 pairs of Dublin short boots break on me (zip went of 1st pair after 4 months). Hmm, dilemma!!

I hate to say it, but you get what you pay for.

I think the Dublin River boots look great (but not as good as DuBarry), ride Ok (but not as well as say a long Mountain Horse Boot) and wear as they are priced.

I think that good footwear is something you invest in - look after your feet and they will look after you!!

I just tried on a pair of Dublin Pinnacles in my local Countrywide about an hour ago! And I told my OH that they are now on my Christmas list as I have chunky calves and they went round "with tread to spare"! Really comfortable in the foot too...

I have recently purchased a pair of Dublin Spirits too and adore them... I hope they last longer than 6 months though!!!

I have some Toggi boots, which are similiar to the Dublin ones, they are brilliant! Had them about a year and muck out, ride in them etc! I think I got mine for about £100, but I think they have come down in price now.

Thanks all. I'm back, avec new boots! Countrywide were fab and gave me a straight refund. They didn't have anything I wanted in store, so off I went somewhere else, and ended up with Toggi Calgary boots. I was tempted by the Canyons (which are the ones like river boots), but actually they felt really big on my ridiculously skinny ankles, and these are more fitted.

Just hope they don't break!

Got my dublin rivers this time last yr at SCOPE. I know lots of people have had problems with the lining but I absolutely LOVE mine. I wear them to muck out, ride, jump, drive the trailer, walk the dog etc etc. They are trashed now but I haven't looked after them. They will do me through the winter tho. Might go for Toggi canyons next time as they seem to be a bit stiffer - ie don't drop as much.
