need new wellies, which ones?

hi all,

need to get new wellies that wont break the bank,


my last few pairs have all burst and cracked quite quickly.

i had a pair of toggi ones that only got thrown out as the sole had gone smooth :D


was thinking about hunters but keep seeing posts saying they also crack and leak,

so what do you all suggest are the best for everyday use ?

I have always had Hunters but I find them very slippy in wet or muddy conditions so wouldn't recommend them. I will be watching this thread to get some ideas of what to buy next!
 
Most people on here say Aigle now.

I haven't tried them yet but that's where I'm going next.

Hunters are rubbish and my muckboots didn't do much better :(
 
Don't bother with Hunters, what a waste of money, mine have lasted 6 months, that works out to be about £10 a month!

I'm thinking about getting a cheapy pair from Asda as I really don't care what they look like, and at their prices it doesn't matter if they only last 6 months.
 
Again another vote for Dunlops with the black sole! I bought a new pair off ebay for less than £10 including postage and they lasted all winter, and would still be going now if I hadn't punctured them with a fork! The grips were good too which is essential where i live as our grazing is on hills. They were cold so just bought a very good pair of thermal socks which did the trick.

Hunters are cold and not grippy enough and split within 3 mnths, muck boots used to be good but the soles have changed and wear out very quickly - I have 2 un split pairs sitting in the tack room but can't wear them as fall over in them all the time as the grip has gone! I have had Aigle, Le Chameau, Dublin ones, Barbour ones and the list goes on....

I live and work in my wellies. At least with a cheap pair of Dunlops, if they only last 6 months, it is not so painful on the pocket!
 
I used to go through them every 2 months as have very wide/high feet and they used to split (all makes).

Muckboots have done nearly 2 years though:D:D

Lethal in the ice mind you as I have the flat ones but I think you can get treadsded ones too.
 
The muck boots with the heavier treads are sadly equally useless now too. I think similar to Hunters they have changed over recent years, and the treads are now made of a softer material which wears down very quickly...leaving the boots lethal in mud or on ice.
 
I'd like to know an answer to this too...I seem to kill wellies :rolleyes:

Hunters froze my feet, Joules ones have ripped up on the inside making them hard to get on/off, I had some good thick Harry Hall ones which lasted well, but also some cheap asda ones that were actually okay for the price, just a bit flimsy.

Think I'll just stick with muckers from now on, even the cheap ones seem to last better than wellies. Never had a 'proper' pair of more expensive wellies though so whether it would be worth paying the extra for better quality I don't know.

Agree - same for the gumleaf ones, really warm even in -12 when I had to walk to the yard cos there was so much snow I couldn't even get through in a 4x4 my feet didnt get cold. Really grippy too and comfy for wearing even all day too. I've had my gumleafs for 3 years now and still going strong, they were £70 so = £2 per month so far! Bargain!
 
If you buy the regular hunters you'll have bother as they are rubbish, find a bargain pair of balmorals and you'll have no trouble. Mine are grippy and have lasted almost 2 years with no sign of wear other than being muddy :D
 
I am having a similar problem- bought a pair of hunters, they didn't last 9 months even though i took excellent care of them. bought cheap ones and they lasted about 3 months, 'normal' wellies from a shoe shop didn't do much better. bought a cheap pair from b&q and they broke within a week.
I have had most luck with muckboot company ones but they are a bit hot for summer and tend to be really slippery. I have run out of money to try any more brands, think i'll go to the fields barefoot from now on, much cheaper! :p
 
Just a thought for you. I have Woof long boots for winter instead of wellies and they are fantastic. Non slip, waterproof, cosy warm and not too expensive. I have had them 3 years and still going strong. However, they are too warm for Spring and Summer but a good buy for the rest of the year.
 
I've got some Hunters and need to replace them. Not impressed with them to be honest for the price they are! I'd go with another brand!
 
My Le Chameaus split around the band that joins the sole on - Aigle just rotted apart on the seam, gave up on Hunters, now wearing Lidl's best - cost £8 - not very stylish but still in one piece and plenty of grip on the sole. There is a shop in Reading called Buyology (near the Horse sales, Iceland) which sell branded boots from time to time but you have to match the lefts with the rights to make a pair, seem quite good for £8.
 
This is one of my current obsessional-topics too, given that the mud levels are exactly the same as they have been since December! I had a new pair of HKM long muckers at the beginning of winter and they have been hammered by the awful conditions and are now both split at the back, the inside side panels are coming adrift and one of them leaks so I immediately have a wet foot. Won't be buying them again!
Thinking of going for the neoprene type wellies now...
