I need either pursuasion or a kick up the bum or a slap in the face..
I have had a horse on full loan for the past 18 months and have recently stopped as I didn't enjoy the yard I was on and I couldn't do as much with the horse due to his age. I haven't previously completely owned my own but sorted the horses daily care and managed all the costs bar insurance. When I stopped I told myself I would start to look next spring to buy but have been itching to take it back up and have been looking at for sale ads pondering over what to do next. Today I find out there is a stable available on the same yard as my very experienced friend (stables rarely come up) and on getting home tonight I've worked out all my costs yearly and monthly and it's written on paper that I can clearly afford it.
So why can't I pluck up the balls to actually do something about it!!!!
This yard is closer to home with better turnout and facilities and I am in uni two 9-4 days from October. My friend has said she is happy to ever help me out if I need it and I would obviously do the same back for her. I'm not looking for something amazing just one that will do a bit of everything!
i think I am worried as its approaching winter and I did struggle with last years winter at previous yard but there was less turnout and it was an extra 20 minute journey a day plus the horse was on straw and it used to drive me mad coming home literally stinking every day as he always had a soaking wet bed (yes this is petty but washing hair every day is so annoying!!) but on new yard they are all on shavings.
I am also petrified of anything going wrong with purchased horse such as lameness issues or injury as I would hate to put £3000 towards a horse which I then can't ride or do anything with a year later.. I have factored in insurance (not something I've dealt with before as owner sorted it) and I have been quoted around £50 a month with petplan. Is this about right for average cover ?
I dont really know what i want in terms of replies i just needed to write everything down as my horsey friends aren't answering the phone and my non horsey people just don't seem to get it ha ha. Thanks for getting this far anyway!!
