Need reassurance ....

Only in the door from the yard , Earlier on this evening , The mare that I am looking after for 10 days came in hopping lame, She had cut herself before her owner went away and was treated ie dermagel etc and seemed fine . Anyhoos went to throw them some haylage and check on her and she was laying flat out a little out of breath and just a little restless .

She had haylage thrown into her about 9.30 and none of it was eaten .... taking into account this mare is a greedy sod who loves her food, Which made me think .....thats not like her .

I am now back at home worrying she may have early signs of colic .

I have removed her haylage and got her up .... again also bearing in mind she is hopping lame I didn't want to get her up and hurt herself further (lame on hind leg, swollen slightly near the inside of her hock ) . Anyways I got her up and apart from probably very sleepy and tired and being late in the night .... Well I hope its not colic , She does seem brightish for this time of night ... if that makes sense, She doesnt seem to be dull but again shes not bright and again lol .... its late ..... So I am slightly worried .....

Gut instinct is telling me that .... I think she is fine and just tired , but her not eating the haylage is just not like her .

Try not to panic, you've done all you can at the mo. If still not right in the morning, then get the vet out......i'm sure owner would say better to than not! Keep us posted.

hmmm? sounds strange, maybe she's feeling the pain in her leg from kick, but laying flat out? is this like her and to be out of breath what was she doing prior to laying down? hmmm?
Are you planning on going back up to 'check' her later tonight? Think I would just so I could sleep knowing she is OK for the night then take a good look at her in the am? perhaps may need to call Vet out to look at her as she really shouldn't be out of breath even laying out flat.

I hope she will be OK, good for you to take haylage away just incase...it really wont harm her for one night I'm sure.

Please let me know how she is in am?

Is the cut infected? That could be making her feel off colour and putting her off her food.

Vet is coming out tomorrow morning anyways to check on her hock .

Prior to her laying down she was brought in from the field around 6.30 , She really wasn't doing anything .
Its more heavy breathing, but then she had a belly full of grass . (friend of the friends daughter came out and gave her haylage, which I personally don't think she needed)

Have I confused anyone yet ? ?

I DO think she is just tired ..... I hope .....

Yard owner is on site, Shes on night shift at the minute but comes in at 3am and said she would look in on her .
Unfortunately I am 15min drive away and looks like I will be up with my 4 year old son (hes now taken off with croup

)

Sods bloody law ..... is out to get me tonight

That was in my head too ....... The cut looks pretty clean, but there is swelling, So yeah ...... its a possiblity .

Not that I had noticed .....

....Have spoken with yo earlier and told her to ring me if there is a problem when she checks her at 3am when she comes in from her night shift .
