Hi I’ve recently purchased a 14’1 Connemara pony she came with a synthetic saddle that moves a lot and I do not like. I had a local saddle fitter out last week who sold me a 17” W saddle I did question was this not to Long and was assured it was fine and fitted her fine. I am not clued up on saddles at all hence why I paid a saddle fitter to come out and fit her. I’ve rode her 3 times since purchasing the saddle and it just doesn’t feel right at all it moves and when I’ve done the finger test I can fit my whole hand in. I have asked for a few ppls opionons on the yard and all have said the saddle does not fit her and are shocked this has been sold by a “saddle fitter” I have rang them and explained and I have requested a full refund and to return the saddle. To which she seemed shocked snd said it does fit her ??‍♀️

Now my question is where do I go from here. I rang a saddle fitter in the first place for guidance and assurance of what best fitted my pony and her requirements. I now feel stuck on what to do next, do I look for one myself or try and find another saddler fitter. Can anyone reccomend any types of saddle best for native breeds that would suit her. I was thinking more of a 16.5 neat seat WH or VSD she is flat backed pics of her and the saddle purchased through saddle fitter are attached. Any advice would really be appreciated

It does look high in the front but the actual panels seem to make contact at the top so rather than saying it's too narrow (usually if it's too high it's too narrow) I'm wondering if the tree might be the wrong shape for the pony. Im not a professional but I don't like how high it is. It might of course drop a fair bit once girth is done up.

I’d ask around abit and have another saddle out who is well recommended. Maybe ask who your friends/other liveries use, and also on local Facebook groups ?

This saddle fitter was recommended by a few of the girls on the yard and by my instructor so I’m a bit stuck now I think I am going to get saddles direct to come out and see what they are like

Agree with above looks too narrow to me your horse looks fairly wide and has a good top line and a nice back, I would get someone who is fitting wide native types to have a look, sbloom on here is good she fits for AH saddles.

Just for an example I have Arabs there wide and both in xx wide saddles to look at them you probably wouldn't think that, I had terrible trouble with my first Arab and struggled finding a good saddle fitter.

I have an over height Connie and recommend AH saddles they are really good at fitting natives. Sbloom fitted mine and she is on here, very knowledgeable and helpful. I think they have fitters for most parts of the country and would be well worth trying

The height of the pony has very little bearing on the size of the saddle. Our 14.3hh cob had a 18" saddle, as have the 17hh horses. I would ask for a 2nd opinion on this saddle from another saddle fitter

Have you also got side on photos of the saddle? Girthed and also just placed on the ponies back?
Nobody can currently see on here if it's too long, sbloom would ask the same, I'm sure.
Many native pony large breeds can be in a 16, 16.5, 17 but few go over the 17 unless they are correspondingly much larger in height and longer.
My current mount is 14hh, wears a 16.5 in one make and a 17 in another, both fit her well.

She looks identical to my little Connemara with a wide barrel shaped body. Her saddle is a 17 inch Bates cob wide with XXW gullet. It fits her really well.

I would add a photo if I could get it the right size!
