Hi,

Im getting married next year.

And id like to ride to the Church on my 2nd love of my life!

He will have to be trained in the art of side saddle, but being mr steady eddie he is cant see a prob, and of course ill only be walking!

but ... does anyone know of anywhere that hires/sell (would prefer to hire for 6months) a saddle?

Help please, to make my day a dream come true!

Thanks

I don't know where you could get a saddle from I'm afraid, but a friend of mine did this a few years ago - they both rode - her side saddle in her wedding dress - through the centre of town - they had a police escort and everything! It was so lovely. She had lessons with a side-saddle instructor and borrowed the horses/tack and everything. See if you can find an instructor near you, maybe?

I'm envious! That's my ideal for my wedding day too!.

Try here; http://www.sidesaddles.co.uk/

they have all Side Saddle gear but also try getting in touch with the Side Saddle Association; http://www.sidesaddleassociation.co.uk/

I'm planning to learn how to ride side saddle this year, I much prefer the look of it to astride riding.

Good luck & I hope you find something as it sounds such a wonderful idea

If you truely have a steady eddy - sit the saddle on, walk him around and hop onboard with someone to lead him for the first few steps.

I have been married twice - each time on my horses. Breeze my TB took it to without a problem, as did Jemima who is a gypsy cob.

I did have a lesson with Breeze - first half was on a horse who knew what to do so I could be taught to sit properly and second half was on Breeze.

I love riding SS. I was loaned a side saddle by the lovely ladies at Standon Saddlery - it was returned in better condition than she gave it to me - cleaned, oiled with a new saddle pad, plus huge bunch of flowers and bottle of champers to say thanks.

The second one was from Scottish Side Saddles - 01560 484916. She lent me a new saddle they make specially for cobs. She was so helpful it was amazing.

With Breeze I rode for 2 weeks to get used to it, but Jemima was 2 days as I didn't need so much practice.

Tip 1 - If you have a horse that can be a bit spooky, get them used to the long dress - I didn't but mine are not daft.

Tip 2 - Don't sit on the skirt - pull it up and lay it on the horse's back. Whatever you do, don't have your Dad behind you taking photos after trotting 2 miles to the church and getting a pic of your bright red bum as you lift the skirt up to dismount

Without the horses, the wedding would not have been as good, particular the last where Cairo was Best Horse and Jemima was Mare of Honour.

I borrowed a side saddle from a friend who is involved in stunt riding (one of the devils horseman) They have a bunch of saddles, so I will ask him about it and see if I can help. Its wonderful that your going for that! I had my mind set on it, but hadn't trialled the idea as saddle didnt arrive till day before and my horse had never been in side saddle nor big dress, but I think he was so shocked...he didn't budge! lol!
