Horse had a touch of colic this morning, not enough to warrant vet (horse gets colic a bit so not uncommon, this is due to on going issue under vets care)
Seems fine now eating a bit of grass.

I am supposed to be going away in an hour for 2 weeks and the person left to care for the horses will have to drop me off, stay overnight and come back tomorrow to be here for 5:00 pm so basically horse will be not be checked on from now 4:30 till tomorrow 5:00 pm.
I would normally advise people against it but horse seems fine now, it is not a completely unusual thing, vets cannot due much anyway unless life or death as horse a bit complicated and has to be either darted or try to cover face and dodge legs.

What does anyone think?

No there isn't, well there is someone who looks in and would see a leg hanging off but would have no idea if horse was colicky.

If it makes any difference horse is now eating tea and did pass droppings earlier.

I'm really stuck if it was bad colic then obviously I wouldn't go and go a day or so later but horse is pretty much normal now and person looking after horse keeps saying they think she is fine now. I am also quite precious about horse because of the health issues so that might be clouding my judement?!?

As long as the person that looks in could be told what sweaty, rolling, lying down looks like I would leave it with them.

Sorry I know I'm being really contrary but the person who looks in does it when walking dog, has no idea about horses and would only notice something really off. The person is elderly and only looks from the gate, I couldn't ask them and would worry them if I did.
I'm just stood here watching horse eating questioning myself! It's so much easier when it's someone else's!

I didn't want to out myself completely but I can't drive so person looking after horse has to drive me. Not ideal I know but horse has issues and it is not fair to expect anyone else to look after him as would be vicious to someone they didn't know. If they got near him would bite, kick, lunge just generally be awful.

On your way in the car could you call round a few freelance grooms or pet sitters even dog walkers who could go and check later and in he morning and take a short video that they could text you with - you could then decide to call out the vet as needed. Not ideal but it's an option. You could bank transfer them their fee

Not sure you want someone to say .
But I would not leave a colicky dangerous to handle horse ( or any of my horses ) in such a situation .

It would cost but in that case I'd ask the vet if they could do a quick drive by and check over - I wouldn't be happy leaving a horse that had coliced even if mildly, for that length of time. Or get the vet out now to check the horse over and give you an indication of whether they think the episode has passed on. I'd be too worried to leave it I'm afraid. Having had a horse go from healthy to almost dead in about 3 hours I'd not take the risk.

Yeah I've decided to stay. It means I can check earlyish tomorrow (8:00 am) and then he will be checked again at about 7:00 pm that evening.

The problem is vets/grooms/friends cannot do anything with him alone as he would go mental. He is a difficult horse which has meant I don't get much of a life TBH. But never mind would rather know he is happy and well than be worried all day and night.

I suspect there may be legal reasons why you can't drive/other reasons the sitter would stay with you so not questioning your arrangements. Would suggest though that, if at all possible, it would be good to find a local freelance groom/instructor if you have one who can help out in future. Treat you/your current sitter to a morning off once per month or something so that they are used to the horse.

If the set up is what I'm guessing you may value them on future occasions.
